HR / Payroll Assistant
Location: 1200 E 104th St, Kansas City, MO 64131
Pay Range: $45,000-$55,000 annually
Job Summary
The Human Resource/ Payroll Assistant supports the Human Resource (HR/Payroll) team with on boarding new staff, administering benefits and leave, enforcing company policies, and managing full-cycle payroll processing.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Onboarding: Coordinates onboarding for all staff, including sales consultants, service advisors, technicians, and administrative personnel; works with department managers to provide required login information; and supports new-hire orientation and employee onboarding.
• Compliance & Training: Reviews, tracks, and documents completion of required compliance training, continuing education, and work assessments, including safety training, anti-harassment training, and certifications.
• HR Administration: Assists in the administration of compensation, leave administration, disciplinary matters, disputes, and investigations. Ensure that documentation is filed in employee records.
• Benefit Administration: Assists in benefits administration to include communication with eligible new employees to ascertain employees are enrolled in a timely manner.
• Employee Relations: Responds to employment- and payroll-related inquiries from employees and supervisors, referring complex or sensitive matters to appropriate staff; participates in disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
• Time & Attendance Management: Monitors and audits time-tracking systems to ensure accurate reporting of hours, overtime, PTO, sick leave, and holidays.
• Employee Support: Serves as the primary contact for employee payroll inquiries and resolves discrepancies promptly, empathetically, and discreetly.
Required Skills & Abilities
• Payroll Knowledge: Strong knowledge of payroll software, time-and-attendance systems, and federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
• Mathematical & Analytical Skills: Strong numerical and analytical skills to audit payroll data and resolve discrepancies.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Organization: Superior organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and proven time-management skills to meet strict payroll deadlines.
• Professionalism: Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and personal information.
• Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, or related software; ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS, ATS, and payroll platforms, such as Paycor or ADP.
• Soft Skills: High level of integrity and confidentiality; strong organizational and time-management skills; and effective verbal and written communication.
Education & Experience
• Education: Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of two years of human resources experience, including at least one year of direct payroll processing experience preferred.
• Certification: SHRM-CP, PHR, or Certified Payroll Professional preferred
Physical Requirements
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer are required.
• Must be able to lift to 15 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to access and navigate all departments within the organization's facilities.
