Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our client’s Human Resources team in the Jackson metro area. In this key role, you will play a vital part in supporting daily HR operations with primary responsibility for end-to-end payroll processing and administrative oversight of employee benefits programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Process regular, off-cycle, and retroactive payroll runs while reconciling discrepancies to ensure accurate and timely employee compensation.
  • Maintain full compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll, tax, and employment regulations.
  • Manage and update confidential employee records across HR and payroll systems with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Prepare payroll and benefits reports and assist with internal and external audits as needed.
  • Process employment verifications and respond to payroll-related inquiries.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with benefits brokers and third-party administrators, coordinating enrollments, changes, terminations, and payroll deductions.
  • Support Open Enrollment processes, including system setup and vendor coordination.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure benefits data remains accurate, timely, and compliant.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to streamline processes and drive operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and continuous process improvement.
  • Provide general day-to-day HR operational support as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in payroll and benefits administration.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Experience with HRIS systems — Workday experience is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience working with third-party vendors or benefits brokers is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across in-person, phone, and electronic channels.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.

 

Compensation:

  • $50,000 - $54,000 depending on experience.
  • Strong benefits package.
