THE OPPORTUNITY
Iron Bow Technologies is searching for a results-oriented and service- driven Payroll Manager who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate should have strong leadership and influencing skills, as well as relationship building and collaboration, judgment, teamwork, people management, and the ability to work with various partners to maintain strong overall governance of the payroll process. You will be responsible for payroll preparation/processing and responsibilities such as payroll and timekeeping systems maintenance, payroll tax reporting and maintaining payroll records. You must have the ability to implement quality control measures to ensure accuracy and compliance within the payroll area, develop policies, procedures and institute industry best practices. The key qualities of an Iron Bow manager is a hands-on management style who is a self-starter, able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. We would love for you to bring broad industry knowledge of current payroll laws and compliance requirements. This opportunity is remote but will require you to come into the Herndon office as needed.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Responsible for timely and accurate processing of semi-monthly multi-state payroll for 800+ employees
  • Manage day-to-day payroll activities
  • Manage and develop payroll staff
  • Manage ADP implementation project to outsource filings for payroll tax returns across all states and jurisdictions; this includes interacting with ADP staff, mapping tax codes, testing of data {monthly, quarterly and annual data} to validate payroll tax withholdings and W2s prior to go-live date {estimated go-live date of 10/1/26}
  • Coordinate work with Sr. Payroll Accountant and ensure the accurate and timely processing of pay, bonuses, commissions, deductions and tax filings in accordance with local, state and federal labor regulations and Company policies.
  • Lead software implementation efforts (ADP, & ongoing Oracle updates)
  • Research and handle extremely confidential information in an expeditious and discretionary manner
  • Liaise with Human Resources team on new hires and terminations
  • Liaise with retirement plan sponsor T.Rowe Price on all 401k payroll matters {funding of plan, validation of employee contributions and employer matching, coordinating and resolving any variances, etc}
  • Provide ongoing employee support to the payroll and timekeeping systems {including timecard corrections, labor costing reconciliations and validations, labor costing recalculations, etc}
  • Identify areas of training needs and structure a plan to deliver such training to employees and staff
  • Responsible for remaining current on all changes in regulations affecting payroll and notifying management and affected employees of the changes and implications {candidate must have broad industry knowledge of current payroll laws and compliance requirements}
  • Formulate, recommend and participate in the implementation of changes to policy and procedure to ensure integrity of the payroll, and to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations governing payment of wages to individuals
  • File and remit payment for all local, state, and federal payroll taxes, levies, and garnishments
  • Reconcile monthly payroll accounts, including taxes, in a timely manner {per accounting reconciliation schedule}
  • Provide Management with payroll-related cash flow projections
  • Facilitate year-end activities related to payroll, such as issuing W-2 forms to employees which include interacting with Accounting and Human Resource teams to incorporate taxable fringe benefits
  • Develop user procedures, guidelines and documentation {this is a must from a business continuity standpoint}
  • Responsible for managing all confidential payroll-related historical files and records
  • Provide Management with ad hoc reports as requested
  • Support quarterly lender, year-end financial, annual 401(k) and other miscellaneous audits
  • Ensure payroll and timekeeping transactions follow {in compliance with} governmental, regulatory, and legislative requirements and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Sr. Director of Accounting and/or Corporate Controller

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE THAT DRIVE SUCCESS
  • Bachelor's degree required (preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • 10 years Finance/Accounting experience including 5+ years administration and management of exempt and non-exempt multi-state payroll
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) - preferred
  • Experience with Oracle or other large ERP system payroll and timekeeping modules preferred
  • Experience with commission processing and payments a plus
  • Government contracting familiarity is a plus
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication
  • Impeccable interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Self-starter with ability to learn and excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Super analytical skills {comfortable managing large data sets and producing meaningful analysis}
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment and effectively interact with colleagues and employees across all functions and levels
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, propose and implement process improvements
  • Brings broad industry knowledge of current payroll laws and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel

COMPENSATION AND BENEFIT INFORMATION
The salary range for this position is $120,000- $140,000. This range reflects the anticipated base pay for the position and is not a guarantee of final compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, skills, education, location, contract requirements, and business needs.
