Job description

We are looking for a Payroll Manager to oversee payroll and HR administration operations for a complex, multi-entity environment in Dallas. This Contract position will lead a team, coordinate with external payroll partners, and work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll services. The role is ideal for a hands-on leader who can balance day-to-day execution with process improvement and strong service delivery standards.

Responsibilities for the Interim Payroll Manager:

• Direct and coach the payroll and HR administration function, fostering accountability, collaboration, and strong performance across the team.

• Manage end-to-end payroll activities for a large employee population, ensuring pay is processed accurately, on schedule, and in accordance with applicable regulations.

• Serve as the primary point of coordination with third-party payroll providers and other service partners to maintain reliable and responsive support.

• Oversee timekeeping, HR administrative records, reporting processes, and data integrity to support smooth operations and informed decision-making.

• Advise internal stakeholders on escalated payroll issues, including tax questions, garnishments, cross-border considerations, and other complex pay matters.

• Monitor operational metrics and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall service quality across payroll processes.

• Partner with HR, Finance, IT, and external agencies on audits, compliance activities, and projects that affect payroll and HR administration.

• Contribute to broader business initiatives such as acquisitions, team expansion, and system-related integration efforts while maintaining continuity of payroll operations.

• At least 7 years of experience leading payroll operations, including full-cycle payroll management in a high-volume environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in multi-state payroll administration and compliance for workforces of 500 or more employees.
• Strong hands-on experience with Dayforce; familiarity with SAP SuccessFactors HCM is preferred.
• Knowledge of Canadian payroll practices is highly valued in addition to strong U.S. payroll experience.
• Proven ability to lead, develop, and build teams, including participation in hiring and evaluation of talent.
• Experience managing sensitive or complex payroll cases with sound judgment and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leaders, vendors, and cross-functional partners while remaining composed in fast-paced situations.
