Payment Software Engineers often encounter challenges such as handling diverse API standards, ensuring secure data transmission, and managing compliance requirements like PCI DSS when integrating with third-party payment gateways. Job description

Senior Software Engineer, Payments
Location: San Francisco (Rincon Hill)
Company Overview
Mission: Make high-quality early childhood education accessible to all by empowering childcare providers with tools and support while helping parents find quality learning environments.
What We're Building: A category-defining platform at the intersection of marketplace, SaaS, and public sector systems, increasingly powered by AI. Series B backed by a16z, Goldman Sachs, and First Round.
The Role
Own the engineering behind a payments platform that processes at least $3 billion through our platform, working alongside a small, dedicated team. We move money across banking, debit cards, Stripe, SAP, partner advances, and payroll, we run our own billing platform, and we lean on third-party partners for most of our fintech capabilities, so much of this is integration, orchestration, and tracking work. There is a lot to build here. You will consolidate and refactor a system built across many legacy integrations into something clean, reliable, and fast, and you will spend a lot of time directly with customers.
What You'll Do
  • Build alongside a dedicated payments team: consolidate and refactor a payments system assembled from many legacy system integrations
  • Build and maintain integrations across banking, debit cards, Stripe, SAP, partner advances, payroll, and our billing platform
  • Own the orchestration and tracking/reconciliation layer across our third-party fintech partners
  • Design for correctness first, because money movement demands it
  • Work directly with customers to understand real-world failure modes and edge cases
  • Partner daily with product to build, ship, measure, and iterate
  • Build within the laws and regulations governing payments and financial services
Who You Are
  • Senior engineer with a strong payments background and real experience building payment systems and integrations (fintech a plus)
  • Exceptionally high attention to detail; strong finance background is a plus
  • Excited to be close to the build and close to customers
  • Likes working on a small team and moving fast; bias toward action
  • Comfortable with the regulatory landscape around payments, banking, and cards
  • Uses AI tools and figures things out independently
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: Competitive market rate
  • Equity: Significant, meaningful ownership
  • Full health coverage
  • Wellness stipend (gym and office)
  • Travel stipend for certain circumstances
Application
Apply with your resume and a short note on the most complex payments or integration system you have built.
This is a full-commitment, full-ownership role, based in our San Francisco office. You will work very closely with the CEO, in office five to six days a week.
