Pay Type / Range:
Journeyman Union Scale. $46.25 per hour (based on experience and/or size and type of equipment)
(This pay range is a good-faith estimate of compensation for this role.)

Job Summary: The Paver Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of asphalt paving machines to lay asphalt on roads, parking lots, and other surfaces. This position requires experience with paving equipment, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with the screed operator and ground crew to ensure smooth, level pavement.

Job Duties & Requirements:

  • Operate asphalt paver controls to lay asphalt material at the correct depth, width, and slope.
  • Monitor machine performance and adjust speed and material flow to achieve a consistent mat.
  • Work closely with the screed operator and crew to maintain consistent paving quality.
  • Coordinate with dump truck drivers for proper material loading and minimize stops or spillage.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and report mechanical issues.
  • Ensure alignment with paving plans, grade stakes, and job specifications.
  • Follow all job site safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Assist with job setup and breakdown, including moving and positioning equipment.
  • Display a professional and respectful attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, inspectors, and the general public at all times.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors.
  • Follow company and industry safety standards and procedures at all times.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience operating asphalt paving machines
  • Solid understanding of paving techniques, mat quality, and material behavior.
  • Ability to read grade stakes, job specs, and communicate with screed and roller operators.
  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to safety and quality.
  • Must be safety-conscious, reliable, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, early mornings, and weekends as needed.
