At RWJBarnabas Health, our Food and Nutrition team plays an important role in supporting each patient's care and overall hospital experience. As a Menu Technician, you'll work directly with patients to help them select meals that meet their individual needs and prescribed diets. Through attentive customer service, accurate order entry, and close collaboration with patients, families, dietitians, and clinical teams, you'll help ensure meals are both satisfying and appropriate for each patient's plan of care.

In this role, you'll be:

  • Assisting patients by telephone and at the bedside with selecting and ordering meals.
  • Entering menu selections into the Room Service computer system and generating accurate meal tickets.
  • Ensuring meal selections align with physician-prescribed diets and the Nutrition Care Manual.
  • Processing dietary orders accurately and in a timely manner through the order entry system.
  • Updating Room Service systems based on diet requisitions and patient admission, discharge, and transfer information.
  • Utilizing electronic patient information systems to locate patients, confirm diet orders, and obtain required information.
  • Preparing daily tube feeding lists for nursing units and completing daily diet counts.
  • Informing dietitians of orders for nutrition consults and calorie counts.
  • Applying knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan when assisting patients with menu selections.
  • Providing positive, compassionate customer service and responding to patient, family, visitor, and staff concerns.
  • Answering telephone calls, accurately recording and relaying messages, and transferring calls as appropriate.
  • Supporting diet office operations by identifying issues, solving problems, and communicating supply needs to management.
  • Participating in the orientation of new team members and serving as a preceptor for students as assigned.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and following departmental policies, procedures, and HIPAA requirements.
