For more than 30 years Poplar Springs Hospital has been guided by its mission of helping those who need the full continuum of behavioral health services. Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, as well as programs for active duty military. Poplar Springs Hospital is located in Petersburg, Virginia, 20 minutes south of Richmond and 50 minutes north of North Carolina. Situated on 25 acres, our serene, nature-like setting offers our patients a sense of calm and peace. We offer families hope through a nurturing environment for adults and adolescents to flourish in their environment.

We have an opening for an Intake Counselor. The Intake Counselor is responsible for providing service to a variety of customer groups, including but not limited to: physicians, allied health professionals, hospital emergency departments, community services boards, convenience care centers, other health care providers, schools, social service and mental health agencies, police, courts, employers and the public at large. The Counselor will be responsible for the call management process, including but not limited to: call sheet completion and data entry. The Counselor will be responsible for review of initial clinical and medical documentation, and determining financial eligibility for referral acceptance. The Counselor will conduct initial psychiatric or chemical dependency assessments, provide crisis intervention, professional advice and assistance with disposition of a psychiatric or CD problem or situation, which may or may not include admission to any Poplar Springs Program. The Counselor will complete initial insurance authorization upon admission with all associated insurance providers. The Counselor will be responsible for accurate bed board management. The Counselor will be knowledgeable and provider referral case management for referrals requiring least restrictive services. The Counselor will be responsible for following the admissions process, including but not limited to: patient wanding and searches, obtaining vitals, consents, and completing patient inventory. Perform other dutes as assigned.

Qualifications
Position Requirements:
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
      • CPR Required (offered on-site)

Education/Experience:
      • MS degree required in counseling, psychology or related social services field.
      • Two to three years experience in intake and patient assessments.
      • If working towards licensure, must be registered for supervision with the Health Regulatory Board.
General Requirements:
      • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children's Residential Facilities. (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
      • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
      • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
      • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
      • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
      • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
      • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions.
      • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.
