As a Patient Intake specialist, your main duties include greeting patients, collecting and verifying personal and insurance information, entering data into EHR systems, and preparing charts for medical staff. While most of your time is spent at the front desk or in an administrative area, you may also assist with basic clinical documentation or pre-screening tasks. We are looking for a Patient Access Specialist to support front-end patient services in Roanoke, Virginia. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys helping patients, managing important registration details, and keeping daily office activity organized in a busy healthcare setting. The person in this role will serve as a key point of contact for patients and visitors while helping ensure accurate scheduling, insurance verification, and payment processing. MUST BE AVAILABLE for non traditional hours, such as 12pm-12am, 7pm-7am, and other alternating shifts.
Responsibilities:
• Greet patients and guests in a courteous and attentive manner to create a welcoming arrival experience.
• Complete patient intake and registration tasks by entering and updating demographic, insurance, and related account information accurately.
• Coordinate appointment scheduling, send confirmations, and assist with rescheduling or follow-up needs as they arise.
• Collect co-pays and other patient payments, issue appropriate documentation, and help reconcile daily financial activity.
• Partner with clinical and office staff to support efficient patient movement and timely service throughout the day.
• Respond to patient questions and concerns with empathy, resolving routine matters and escalating more complex issues when needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information in compliance with healthcare privacy standards.
• Experience in customer service, patient registration, scheduling, or other front-desk functions in a healthcare environment.
• Working knowledge of medical insurance verification and related patient intake procedures.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, visitors, and internal staff.
• Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy when entering and updating information.
• Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced medical or administrative setting.
• Proficiency with standard office systems and electronic patient or registration platforms.
