As of Aug 8, 2026, the average hourly pay for pasta in the United States is $26.39, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.51 and $27.40 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by pasta chefs in a busy restaurant setting?

Pasta chefs in high-volume restaurants often face the challenge of maintaining consistency in both taste and texture, especially during peak hours. Balancing multiple orders while ensuring each pasta dish is cooked perfectly al dente requires excellent time management and attention to detail. Additionally, pasta chefs must work closely with kitchen staff to coordinate timing and ingredient availability, ensuring quality is never compromised even under pressure.

What does a pasta chef do?

A pasta chef, sometimes called a pastaio or pasta maker, specializes in preparing, cooking, and presenting a variety of pasta dishes. Their responsibilities often include making fresh pasta dough, shaping different pasta types, cooking pasta to the right texture, and pairing sauces appropriately. Pasta chefs may work in restaurants, hotels, or specialty shops, and they must pay close attention to detail and timing to ensure high-quality dishes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pasta chef, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pasta Chef, you need a solid understanding of culinary fundamentals, pasta preparation techniques, and food safety, often gained through culinary school or professional kitchen experience. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, pasta machines, and inventory management systems is commonly required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong time management are essential soft skills for excelling in this role. These skills ensure consistently high-quality dishes, efficient kitchen operations, and a memorable dining experience for guests.

Job description

Cashier

Who We Are:

Pasta Sisters is a family-owned Italian restaurant and fresh pasta shop that specializes in homemade pasta and traditional Italian dishes inspired by the founders’ family recipes and culinary heritage. It combines authentic Italian flavors with a casual, approachable dining experience. At Pasta Sisters, we're proud to share the food we grew up with. Made with care, high-quality ingredients, and genuine love, our dishes bring everyone together to enjoy authentic Italian cooking in a place that feels like home.

Position Overview:

At Pasta Sisters, our Cashiers are the first point of contact for our guests, playing a key role in creating a smooth, welcoming, and efficient experience. This role goes beyond taking orders. You’ll manage the flow of our takeout and dessert station, support the bar with beer, wine, and coffee service, and ensure every guest interaction feels warm and seamless.

Cashiers help set the tone of hospitality while keeping operations organized, accurate, and fast-paced.

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet every guest with a friendly, welcoming attitude and create a strong first impression.
• Accurately take customer orders in person and over the phone, ensuring all details are correct.
• Process cash and card transactions efficiently and responsibly.
• Manage and organize the takeout station, ensuring orders are complete, properly packaged, and handed out promptly.
• Prepare and serve desserts according to Pasta Sisters standards.
• Work the bar station by pouring beer and wine and preparing coffee drinks.
• Answer menu questions, provide recommendations, and guide guests through their ordering experience.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked cashier, dessert, and takeout areas.
• Communicate clearly with kitchen and front-of-house teammates to ensure accuracy and smooth service flow.
• Monitor order timing and proactively assist in keeping operations running efficiently during busy periods.
• Jump in to support other front-of-house duties as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

• Experience: Previous cashier, barista, or restaurant experience is a plus, but not required. We’re happy to train individuals with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
• Communication: Clear and friendly communication skills with both guests and teammates.
• Guest-Focused Mindset: A positive, attentive attitude with a passion for creating great guest experiences.
• Accuracy & Efficiency: Strong attention to detail when taking orders, handling payments, and managing multiple responsibilities at once.
• Reliability & Adaptability: Punctual, dependable, and able to stay composed in a fast-paced environment.
• Organization: Ability to keep multiple stations (register, dessert, takeout, bar) clean, stocked, and running smoothly.
• Mobility: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move for extended periods (up to 8 hours), and lift up to 30 lbs.
• Availability: Flexible schedule based on business needs, including weekends and holidays.

Our Values

At Pasta Sisters, how we work matters just as much as what we serve. Our team is built around five core values:

Honesty – We do the right thing and stay true to who we are.

Respect – We treat everyone with dignity and understanding.

Care – We pour our hearts into everything we do.

Hard Work – We believe effort makes the difference.

Happiness – We bring joy to everyday.

These values are part of our culture and our hiring process. If selected for an interview, you may be asked questions based on these values—so come prepared by knowing them.

Ready to join us?
If you’re enthusiastic, people-focused, and excited to grow with Pasta Sisters, we’d love to meet you. Apply today and become part of the Pasta Sisters family, where handmade pasta, Italian tradition, and genuine hospitality come together every day.

We believe food is more than a meal, it's a connection.
At Pasta Sisters, everything we do comes from the desire to share the warmth of our family, the honesty of our roots, and the joy of genuine hospitality. We work with care, respect, and dedication so every guest feels valued, every team member feels supported, and every experience feels like home. We do all these things because creating a place where people can eat well, feel welcome, and make lasting memories is what gives our work meaning.
