  • This position is in the Security Division of the Command Operations Department at Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE) in Jacksonville, Florida.
  • The primary purpose of this position is to install, overhaul and repair all types of locks and security systems; makes keys and changes combination and cipher locks.
  • The incumbent serves as the expert in locking device capabilities and functions.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.
The Screen-out for this position is performing the following tasks:
  1. Installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a wide variety of mechanical and electronic locking systems, including high-security locks, combination locks, cipher locks, and electromechanical devices.
  2. Opening, repairing, and rekeying locks and safes; changing combinations; fabricating or duplicating keys using code cutting, impressioning, or duplication methods; and maintaining key control systems and records.
  3. Diagnosing malfunctions and determining appropriate repair methods using technical manuals, manufacturer specifications, and security guidelines, and selecting appropriate tools and techniques to complete work.
  4. Installing and servicing security containers, vaults, and locking systems, including performing drilling, neutralization, and repair techniques for lockouts and safe failures.
  5. Designing, installing, and maintaining master key systems and access control systems, and conducting security surveys to identify vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions.
  6. Fabricating, modifying, or repairing locking components using hand and power tools and shop equipment (e.g., drills, grinders, lathes, soldering equipment) and selecting appropriate materials based on strength, durability, and security requirements.
  7. Working independently to plan and complete assignments, exercising sound judgment in adapting procedures, troubleshooting complex issues, and making on-the-spot decisions in support of mission requirements.
