We are a diverse organization with multiple sites and a focus on innovation and growth. This description summarizes the role and the qualifications we seek for an HR Business Partner at our Mt. Vernon, IN site.

Position Overview

This position serves as a key HR partner by providing daily support, guidance, and engagement to employees and leaders across the site. The role manages full-cycle hiring needs, conducts employee relations investigations, and ensures consistent application of policies and employment regulations. It also oversees leave of absence processes, maintains accurate and confidential employee records, and supports employee events and compliance activities. Additionally, the position analyzes workforce data to identify trends and presents insights to senior leadership.

Onsite at BWXT’s Mt. Vernon, IN office location.

Your Day to Day as a Human Resources Business Partner
  • Provide day-to-day Human Resources support to the workforce through employee engagement on the shop floor, respond to questions and inquiries in a timely manner, and resolve concerns as identified.
  • Partner with leadership and Talent Acquisition to provide full-cycle support for the site’s hiring needs.
  • Advise employees and managers on interpretation of policies, guidelines, procedures, laws, and other government regulations.
  • Complete employee relations investigations with a focus on factual findings, legal and policy compliance, and prompt resolution.
  • Guide and support employees through FMLA and Short-Term Disability leaves and coordinate return-to-work protocols.
  • Assist with employee events, including benefits enrollment, policy training, meetings, career fairs, and recognition events.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance through routine checks of required legal and ethics postings.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of new hire files and records.
  • Analyze data and statistics for trends in recruitment, hiring practices, motivation, turnover, and compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Prepare reports of data results and present findings to senior leadership.
  • Consult with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, business, or a closely related field.
  • At least 6 years of related HR experience, including staffing, benefits, compensation, employee relations, and employment law compliance.
  • Ability to work fully onsite at BWXT’s Mt. Vernon, IN location.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service while ensuring legal and policy compliance.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Effective communication across all levels and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and advanced proficiency in Excel for business reporting.
  • Supports a safety- and quality-driven, 24/7 manufacturing operation requiring occasional adjusted schedules (early mornings, second shift, plant initiatives, after-hours investigations, and pre-planned weekend events).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Compensation

Pay: $76,000 - $119,000 per year. The base salary range for this position in Indiana is provided at the start of employment and may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective considerations. The total compensation package may include other elements, such as an annual incentive and a full range of medical, retirement, and other benefits. Details will be provided with an offer of employment. This position is at-will where applicable and subject to change by BWXT.
