What is a partner engineer?

Partner Engineers are technical professionals who work at the intersection of engineering and business partnerships. They help external partners integrate with a company's products, APIs, or platforms, offering technical guidance, support, and solutions. Their role often involves troubleshooting, developing custom integrations, and ensuring a smooth technical collaboration, making them key to successful business relationships. Partner Engineers must have strong technical skills as well as excellent communication abilities to translate complex technical concepts for partners.

How does a partner engineer typically collaborate with external partners and internal teams to ensure successful product integrations?

Partner Engineers act as technical liaisons between their company and external partners, working closely to integrate products or services. They often participate in joint planning sessions, provide technical guidance, and troubleshoot integration challenges. Internally, they collaborate with product, engineering, and support teams to relay partner requirements and feedback, ensuring solutions are robust and scalable. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to balance the needs of both internal stakeholders and external partners for mutual success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a partner engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Partner Engineer, you need a solid background in software development, API integration, and a relevant technical degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python, JavaScript, or Java), cloud platforms, and collaboration tools like GitHub is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills are essential for effectively working with external partners. These skills ensure seamless technical integration, foster strong partnerships, and drive successful joint solutions.

Job Description:

At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry. Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world's largest enterprises.

Senior Partner Solution Engineering Manager

As a Cloudera Senior Partner Solutions Engineering Manager, you will be a strategic leader driving the adoption of Cloudera's Enterprise Data Platform across the most critical technology alliances. You will leverage technical and business acumen to accelerate cloud-native adoption and deliver high-impact AI-driven data solutions with partners like NVIDIA, Dell, IBM, Salesforce, Informatica, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

This role requires a blend of leadership, technical depth, and strategic partnership management to drive growth and market leadership.

As the Senior Partner Solution Engineering Manager you will:

  • Lead and mentor a world-class team of Partner Solutions Engineers while fostering deep, strategic relationships with technology partners and key alliances.

  • Drive Cloudera's technology alliances strategy, managing joint go-to-market (GTM) and co-engineering initiatives with major partners.

  • Interpret complex customer problems to design and deliver simple, winning solutions. Present the roadmap, technical vision, and business outcomes to stakeholders, from developers to CTOs and CIOs.

  • Experience in moving prospects through the sales pipeline to close deals through RFPs, hands-on labs, proof of concepts and technical wins.

  • Collaborate with the Channels & Alliances team to develop and execute sales plays focused on acquiring new logos.

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and partners to develop initiatives and programs to strengthen Cloudera's capabilities and develop joint solutions to address customer needs and market opportunities

  • Act as the voice of partners at Cloudera, providing market and product feedback to Engineering and Product Management to directly influence product direction and roadmap strategy.

  • Act as a player/coach, providing strategic support and building key leadership relationships across both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Act as a technology evangelist through external thought leadership (blogs, industry events, community engagement).

We're excited about you if you have: (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience building, leading, and managing high-performing solution engineering or alliances teams.

  • Alliance Expertise: Strong experience with:

    • Software and Hardware Partners (ISVs/IHVs): Collaborating with partners (e.g., NVIDIA, Dell, Informatica, Qlik, Salesforce) on co-engineering and solution certification.

    • Cloud Service Providers (CSPs): Good understanding of hyperscaler cloud architectures and ability to collaborate with them.

  • GTM & Business Acumen: Experience managing joint business initiatives, including co-sell programs and marketplace integrations.

  • Data Ecosystem Knowledge: Strong foundation in the Big Data ecosystem (Spark, Hive, Impala) and modern data management principles, including the shift to separate storage and compute environments.

  • Technical Fluency: Comfort with Infrastructure (Kubernetes), common programming languages (Java/.NET/Python), and SQL.

  • Education: Four-year degree (Bachelor's) from an accredited university.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

You may also have: (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Prior experience driving SI joint go-to-market strategies or establishing cloud partnership programs.

  • Solution Architecture/Engineering experience, including whiteboarding, designing, and demonstrating real business value with hands-on technical skills.

  • Familiarity with GenAI and traditional AI concepts from a pre-sales point of view.

  • Experience with Streaming technologies (NiFi, Kafka, Flink) or NoSQL databases (HBase, Cassandra).
