Job description

Gibson Dunn is a leading global law firm, advising clients on significant transactions and disputes. Based in Los Angeles, the Professional Development Coordinator will be responsible for collaborating with the Firm's Professional Development team on partner development and coaching initiatives. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication, organizational, time management, and technological skills.  In addition, candidates must have strong judgment, an understanding of diplomacy, great initiative, and the ability to work flexibly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

This role reports to our Professional Development Managers in Los Angeles and San Francisco. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Playing an integral role in team project management by assigning and tracking various group weekly and monthly tasks in the internal Professional Development database.   
  • Coordinating associate events and programs in specific offices, including the brainstorming of event design, sending invitations, working with internal and external resources, arranging technology support, and tracking RSVP counts.
  • Coordinating and attending monthly Associates Committee calls and developing and distributing themes.
  • Tracking departmental and local office budgets, including responding to frequent questions and reporting requests, and inputting reimbursement requests into firm accounting software.
  • Collaborating with Professional Development Managers on formal mentor program assignments, tracking, and event planning.
  • Working with HRIS to monitor attrition statistics, including regular and ad hoc reporting.
  • Assisting Professional Development Managers in using metrics to proactively identify office and global associate themes.  
  • Maintaining a regular office presence and providing on-site support at various events throughout the year.
  • Serving as a general administrative resource to the Professional Development team.

 Qualifications:

  • Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills paired with a positive, welcoming, and service-oriented attitude.
  • Integrity to handle sensitive and highly confidential information with utmost care.
  • Strong organization skills with a focus on attention to detail, problem solving and the ability to multitask.
  • Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills.  Must be able to tailor written work product to the appropriate audience.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and attorneys at all levels of the firm.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, creativity and self-directed behavior.
  • Established project management, program design and event planning experience.  Demonstrated ability to make continued progress on long-term projects.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends, based on department needs is required.

Experience:

  • Four-year college degree required. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of professional work experience is preferred.
  • Must meet minimum testing requirements. 
  • Strong skills in MS Word and PowerPoint.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $75-80k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
