Responsibilities
Unit Notes

-The PCU is a stepdown unit from the ICU. It will be a 3:1 nurse patient ration for closer monitoring of the ICU patients that don’t quite meet the tele level of care.
-RN’s should have experience in a ICU stepdown or PCU unit. Training is telemetry. Training in high risk medications
Unit PCU/Step-down (critical care stepdown)
Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:3
Required Certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Stepdown patients from ICU, TBI/trauma patients, major surgery, CEA, sepsis
Experience or 'Must have' skills: Arterial and CVP pressure lines; titrating pressors; precedex; trach & stable vented patients
Are RNs required to titrate drips= Yes
Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, levophed
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): 12Hr shifts starting at 645am/pm. 3 shifts/week.
Schedules made out about 2-3 weeks in advance initially and then try to schedule them out 9 weeks in advance.
Self-scheduling for the most part.
Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts in a 4 week schedule,Days - Sat/Sun, Nightsw - Fri/Sat
Holiday Requirements: Work into perm staff rotation
Is there call or a standby requirement=No
Floating Requirements: First to float, float to Tele or MedSurg
Scrub Color/Dress code: Navy blue
Unit/Department specific orientation: 1 shift on unit
Additional Notes: Must have 2-3 years of experience in specialty - open to first time travelers.
Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with healthcare team members.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Registered Nurse also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care in Telemetry Unit. The Registered Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her assigned patients. He / She communicates with the physician about changes in the patient’s clinical condition including cardiac monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment.

Qualifications:
1. Current and valid state RN License.
2. Current BLS (AHA or Red Cross)
3. Current ACLS (AHA or Red Cross)
4. Previous Acute Care hospital experience
5. Ventilator Management experience preferred.
6. COVID vaccination preferred
