Job description

Starting Rate: $20.64

  • Hourly rate does not reflect shift differential pay and weekend differential pay
  • Flexible schedule with 6-hour shifts including days, nights and weekends
  • Must be willing to work a minimum of 6 shifts per month

Dauphin County Work Release Center is currently accepting applications for the position of Part Time Probation Officer I.  An employee in this position oversees - on-site and afield - County inmates sentenced to work release.  He/she is responsible for the following job duties:

  • Assists with the daily operations of the Work Release Center. 
  • Establishes and maintains prescribed files, manual and automated
  • Directs and counsels persons assigned to his/her authority
  • Consults with offenders' families, friends, associates and employers; law enforcement and social service agencies; and other County Probation professionals pursuant to composition and fulfillment of respective rehabilitation plans
  • Monitors offenders electronically (GPS), by telephone, and afield
  • Prepares regular and special reports to the Work Release Supervisor and/or the Court, as the latter directs.
  • Administers drug testing and searches with the work release residents
  • Transports offenders to/from Dauphin County Prison, community service events and social service providers 
  • Responsible for in-processing/out-processing offenders to and from the work release center
  • Monitors offenders through our offender management system to include documenting case notes

  • Probation and Parole Academy, Department of Corrections Training Academy, Defensive Tactics, Taser, Narcan...

This is also an on-call position.  The employee must be available to work on various day and night shifts to maintain adequate staffing of the work release center and by working several shifts a month.  This is a union position.
