What we're looking for in a Health & Safety Substitute
To excel as a Part-Time On-Call Health & Safety Substitute at The International School of Portland, you'll need a blend of compassion, resourcefulness, and strong communication skills. Your passion for our school's mission will drive your interactions with young children in Pre-K through 5th grade, ensuring their comfort when ill or injured. The ability to remain calm under pressure and accurately assess emergency situations is vital.
As a collaborative team player, you will work seamlessly with co-workers while also demonstrating independence. Attention to detail is essential for managing health records and accident reports as needed. Being CPR and First Aid certified, along with experience with young children, is important.
Preferred qualifications such as EMT or Medical Assistant certification, or a Bachelor's degree would be so helpful, or bilingual abilities (but not required) will set you apart in our diverse, forward-thinking community.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school or GED
  • CPR Certified or can be renewed with the school
  • First Aid Certified or can be recertified with the school
  • A minimum of 6 months experience working with young children
  • Communicate fluently in written and spoken English
  • Able to pass a background check and get licensed with (OELD) Oregon Early Learning Division Office of Child background check

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified as an EMT would be great but not necessary
  • Medical Assistant or LVN is nice but not necessary
  • Comfortable with Google Suite or Office would be helpful
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual: Communicate fluently in written and spoken English and any of the languages taught at the school: Spanish, Japanese or Chinese but not required for this role
  • Comfortable in an international community
