They are responsible for tasks like answering phones, managing patient records, scheduling appointments, and assisting nurses and doctors with clerical duties. Their role helps ensure that the unit runs smoothly by handling essential paperwork and communication. Part time unit secretaries often work flexible hours, which can include evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on the needs of the facility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time unit secretary?

To thrive as a Part Time Unit Secretary, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with some employers preferring prior healthcare or clerical experience. Familiarity with hospital information systems, electronic health records (EHRs), and office software like Microsoft Office is typically required. Excellent communication, multitasking abilities, and professionalism help you effectively support staff and interact with patients and families. These skills ensure the smooth operation of the unit, accurate record-keeping, and a positive environment for both patients and healthcare teams.
