What is a part time software consultant?

Part time software consultants are professionals who provide expert advice and technical solutions to companies on a flexible, part-time basis. They may help with software development, troubleshooting, system integration, or digital transformation projects. These consultants work with multiple clients or projects, allowing businesses to access specialized expertise without hiring a full-time employee. Their schedules and workloads can vary depending on the clients' needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time software consultant?

To thrive as a Part Time Software Consultant, you need a solid background in software development, problem-solving abilities, and relevant experience in consulting or IT project delivery. Familiarity with programming languages, cloud platforms, version control systems, and certifications like AWS Certified Developer or Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals is often expected. Strong communication, adaptability, and time management skills help consultants build client relationships and manage multiple projects efficiently. These skills ensure effective solutions, client satisfaction, and the ability to balance a flexible workload in a dynamic technical environment.

How do part time software consultants typically balance multiple clients or projects simultaneously?

Part-time software consultants often juggle projects for different clients, which requires strong organizational and time management skills. They use tools like project management software and clear communication strategies to set expectations and maintain transparency with each client about timelines and deliverables. Regular check-ins and well-defined scopes help reduce overlap and prevent burnout. Flexibility and proactive planning are key to ensuring quality work for all parties involved.

What is the difference between Part Time Software Consultant vs Part Time Software Developer?

AspectPart Time Software ConsultantPart Time Software Developer

Employer & Industry UsageUsed by consulting firms, tech companies, and freelance roles across various industriesEmployed by tech companies, startups, or as freelancers in software development projects

The choice depends on whether you prefer consulting and strategic planning or hands-on software creation.

Do part time software consultants make a lot of money?

Part time software consultants can earn competitive hourly rates, often ranging from $50 to $150 or more depending on experience, skills, and project complexity. However, their total income depends on the number of hours worked and market demand, and they typically do not receive full-time benefits. Earnings can vary widely based on specialization, certifications, and client base.

Job description

Software Consultant with Advanced English (C1+)

Who We Are
W'ere a boutique IT consultancy specializing in web, mobile, and desktop application development. Our team members each bring 7-10 years of experience to the table. Although our operations are currently remote, based out of Florida and California, the majority of our developers are located across Europe and Asia.

Why We Need You
To scale our capabilities, we've added several mid-level developers and organized them into smaller teams, each led by a senior developer overseeing two mid-level colleagues. This setup has enabled us to collaborate smoothly and deliver projects on schedule.

However, because our senior developers are heavily booked and our mid-level developers have limited English fluency, we're looking for additional support to bridge the gap.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced software developer who:

  • Has at least 4-5 years of relevant development experience
  • Demonstrates advanced (C1-level or higher) English proficiency
  • Can commit to 10-15 hours weekly

Your main responsibility will be to communicate effectively with clients, gather requirements, and relay them to our development teams. You won't be required to do any coding as our team will handle the technical execution while you focus on client interactions and project coordination.

How Collaboration Will Work
We leverage our senior developer's profiles on established online platforms to connect with clients across the U.S. You'll participate in client interviews and act as a senior developer during calls. This will include both video and phone conversations, covering the project onboarding process and ongoing communication.

We will provide comprehensive materials such as client details, developer bios, job descriptions, and sample work to support you in this role.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4-5 years of software development experience
  • Proficiency in English at a level above C1 (reference test)
  • Availability during standard EST or PST business hours

Compensation Options

  • Hourly: Based on your stated rate and actual hours worked
  • Salary: Annual range between $24,000 and $30,000 USD

Additional Notes
At present, we have two contractors working in full- and part-time capacities. Given their full schedulesmanaging interviews, client meetings, and daily standups we are in need of extra help to keep up with growing client demands
