Commis Chef

Our camp and conference grounds is seeking a dependable, team-oriented Commis Chef to join our kitchen staff in serving guests through food, hospitality, and community. This position supports the culinary team in preparing nutritious, high-quality meals for retreats, camps, conferences, and special events throughout the year.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced kitchen, values teamwork, and wants their work to contribute to a meaningful mission-centered environment.

Position Summary

The Commis Chef assists the Executive Chef and kitchen leadership with food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and maintaining kitchen organization. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, adaptable, hardworking, and able to thrive in a collaborative camp setting.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily meal preparation and cooking
  • Prepare ingredients including chopping, portioning, and basic recipe execution
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in all kitchen areas
  • Support buffet, banquet, and camp-style meal service
  • Help receive and properly store deliveries
  • Follow food safety and health department guidelines
  • Work cooperatively with kitchen staff, volunteers, and seasonal team members
  • Assist with dishwashing and kitchen closing duties as needed
  • Maintain a positive and servant-hearted attitude toward guests and staff
Qualifications
  • Previous kitchen or food service experience preferred but not required
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen environment
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
