ABOUT
The Clinical Specialist in Respiratory Care II is a part-time position that reports to the Department Chair of Respiratory Care. The position facilitates orientation and clinical settings for respiratory care students, equipping them with the skills necessary for success in the field.
This is a part-time position and is subject to a maximum of 18 hours per week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Primary Responsibilities
  • Facilitates hospital orientation for respiratory therapy students.
  • Collaborates with the academic institution's course coordinator to plan course content, objectives, and learning activities.
  • Coordinates student respiratory therapy clinical experiences in collaboration with respiratory therapy educators and preceptors.
  • Provides clinical supervision and evaluation of students, in coordination with assigned preceptors.
  • Coordinates and conducts clinical conferences with students to meet the educational objectives of the course.
  • Participates in direct patient care activities to maintain clinical competence.
  • Independently administers medications per licensure authority, assesses and reassesses effects of these medications, and documents administration promptly per policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides assistance and consultation to preceptors for problem-solving and implementation of course objectives.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop goals and objectives for education and training programs as assigned.
  • Supports efforts in professional respiratory therapy practice quality and outcomes activities.
  • Maintains and reports on outcomes data related to the assigned program.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Work Environment: Hospital setting, with extended length shifts and after-hours and weekend work required
Physical Demands: Prolonged walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 50lbs, and repetitive motion
Travel Required: Yes- 20%
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
WHO YOU ARE
Required Education
Associate of Applied Science degree in respiratory care from a CoARC-accredited program.
Required Experience
3 years of respiratory therapy experience in an acute care setting.
Required Credentials/Licensures
  • Respiratory Care Practitioners License issued by the Texas Medical Board.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist with The National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider and any relevant certification as determined at the position level.

Preferred Credentials/Licensures
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS), and Neonatal and Pediatric Specialist (NPS).

Additional Job-Specific Requirements
This position requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

RETIREMENT
Part-Time Retirement

Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company. The plan will provide you and your beneficiary with fully vested cash settlement or income benefits after termination of employment for any reason.

Employee and immediate family use of the Apache Recreation Center - an indoor weight and exercise center, 18-hole disc golf course, covered basketball course, and outdoor ping-pong table and cornhole. The cost is $5 per ID.
