Job description

The Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry is actively seeking applications for a Research Technician to join the research group of Dr. Debomoy Lahiri, IU Distinguished Professor.
Dr. Lahiri's research encompasses the molecular pathology of neurodegeneration associated with aging, as well as neuropsychiatric disorders with genetic and sporadic origins, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD).
The collaborative environment of the Lahiri research group extends beyond the institution, fostering partnerships with esteemed scientists on local, national, and international levels. Those working in this lab will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, with the potential for publication in reputable PubMed-cited journals.
Job Summary
  • Cultures different mammalian cell types and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
  • Conducts cell-based assays and utilizes molecular biology kits.
  • Performs experiments on difference cell culture lines, including:
    • RNA Cell transfection.
    • Biochemical and molecular assays, including viability assays, immunostaining, and gene/protein expression analysis.
  • Maintains accurate lab records and participates in collaborative research discussions.
  • Works closely with the lab manager and other staff.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience, or any related biomedical field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 6 months of experience in a biochemistry lab (preferably with exposure to mammalian cell cultures and protein assays).
SKILLS
Required
  • Basic knowledge of sterile cell culture techniques.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Passion for investigating the cellular and molecular underpinnings of neurodegeneration.
Preferred
  • Experience with Western blotting, ELISA, RT-PCR, immunocytochemistry, or molecular cloning.
  • Some familiarity with iPSC differentiation and RNA/protein extraction techniques.
Working Conditions / Demands
Sometimes experimental work may require weekend and/or after business hours work. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
