Job description

Theย University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week)ย Administrative Specialist (CL2)- YourPace Admissions. This position will be part of a dynamic and innovative team that provides proactive, student-centered support to adult graduate and undergraduate competency-based education (YourPace) prospects and applicants. manage the YourPace Admissions general inbox. This includes responding directly to prospective students, connecting current applicants to their Admissions Specialist, and directing current students to their Success Coach. This position is also responsible for returning phone inquiries and directing calls to the broader admissions and enrollment staff as needed. The intended start date for this position is July 1, 2026.ย 

This position works closely with all members of the UMPI YourPace Admissions team.

This role is primarily remote. Training and other events may require occasional travel to the UMPI campus.ย 

This position is designated as an essential position requiring the individual to be able to work remotely during periods of inclement weather and/or campus emergencies.ย 

The starting rate for this part-time position is $20.39 (non-negotiable) for a new hire or the appropriate transfer rate for a current employee within the ACSUM collective bargaining unit. In addition, the University will contribute up to a 4% matching contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America's Well Workplace Award and offers a wellness program.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and sufficient experience.
  • Two years of administrative support experience.
  • Technology Requirements:ย ย Stable, high-speed internet connection (minimum 25 Mbps; hotspots are not acceptable).ย 
  • Completion of a Remote Work Agreement Form.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Exceptional Communication (Written & Oral): Superior written and verbal communication skills are critical. Must possess the ability to craft clear, accurate, and professional emails, as well as confidently and warmly guide students over the phone. Active listening skills are a must.
  • Technical Literacy: Basic computer skills including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Google applications, and communication technology (e.g., Zoom). Ability to navigate multiple software applications simultaneously.
  • Professional Demeanor: An outgoing, positive manner with the ability to connect, motivate, and inspire people. Ability to relate to a diverse pool of prospective students with tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Work Habits: Perseverance, high attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, multitask, and work flexibly both independently and as part of a team.
  • Admissions Knowledge: Experience working in Salesforce, MaineStreet, and ImageNow is highly valued.

Preferred Qualifications:ย 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; candidates with an Associate's degree combined with related experience as an educator, or in admissions, tutoring, counseling, customer service, or sales will be considered.
  • Equivalent relevant experience specifically as an educator, or in admissions, tutoring, counseling, customer service, or sales.
  • Previous experience managing multiple projects and adapting to changing priorities in a higher education environment.
