Job description

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in Washington, DC, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them.

Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation:
We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $19.46 to $20.58 and is commensurate with experience.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a part-time after-school Education Program Assistant for our Family Services Department. This position will serve two locations: Weinberg House, located in Northwest DC & the Liz Donohue House in Northeast, DC.

**College students majoring in elementary/secondary education are a PLUS!**

Position Description: The Education Program Assistant provides assistance for youth programming and educational activities for children (approx. ages 5-12) in Family Housing.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm (Part-Time, 20 hours/week)

Qualifications:

Required: HS/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing services to children. CPR/First-Aid, CPR for Infants

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 3-5 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing services to at-risk students and low-income families; Valid Driver's License.

  • Ability to communicate with a diverse audience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to set professional boundaries
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Expected Contributions: Youth Programming

  • Lead youth through SOME Place for Kids activities in an after-school program (approx. ages 5-12)
  • Collaborate with the Youth Services Coordinator and staff to develop and implement programs
  • Assist in developing communications to promote programs
  • Communicate with students and parents to collect report cards, collect permission slips, etc.
  • Purchase supplies, as needed
  • Assist in summer programs, as needed
  • Assist with tutoring activities for children
  • Assist volunteers in learning program activities
  • Develop monthly volunteer reports
  • Develop a monthly activities calendar
  • Assist with administrative issues, as needed
