The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra - You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Senior Engineer Design - Foot Controls and Suspension.
Job Summary
The candidate will be responsible for supporting motorcycle development programs from initial concept to delivery for foot controls and suspension systems/components. This person will be part of a technical team of engineers and designers and works directly with other departments including Manufacturing, Service, Styling, Purchasing, etc. They will be very hands-on with team members, other Systems, Vehicle, and Product Line Engineering teams to ensure that projects meet time, quality, cost and weight requirements.
Job Responsibilities
  • Deliver system level technical correctness for foot controls and suspension systems for the Life Cycle Plan through delivery of robust design practices.
  • Deliver Motorcycle and Accessory LCP projects from concept to production.
  • Influences project outcomes through presenting optimized design alternatives using set-based design approach including DFA, DFM, reducing weight, etc.
  • Develop designs through technical development and integration with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Create CAD models, large virtual assemblies, detailed drawings, and/or PRDs while utilizing techniques within Creo Parametric software.
  • Deliver robust Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis/Design Verification Plan & Report (FMEA/ DVP&R) through end-to-end ownership of the design and delivery process.
  • Verify system performance to H-D standards, approve supplier validation, and work with test and verification entities to ensure systems meet or exceed requirements.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance through collaboration with the Motorcycle Regulatory Compliance Team
  • Communicate project status, risks, key metrics, and recommended actions clearly and effectively to cross-functional partners and leadership.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within component design processes, tools, and methodologies.

Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree Required
Education Specifications
  • Bachelors of Science (BS) degree is required in either: Electrical, Mechanical, or Electro-mechanical.
  • Masters of Science degree (MS) in a technical field preferred.

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on engineering professional experience working directly in product development.
  • Well-rounded engineering background in multiple areas of product development, project management, and continuous improvement.
  • Deep technical knowledge in suspension systems, welding, forgings, castings, rubber molding, chrome plating, and coatings.
  • Proficient in bolted joint calculations, analysis, design, testing and manufacturing tools/processes including CAD, GD&T, conventional engineering calculations, PLM systems, DFM/DFA methodologies and engineering change management.
  • Knowledge and experience using the H-D Product Development methodology (PDP)
  • Proficient with CAD tools (Pro-E or Creo) to ensure design accuracy.
  • Proven success in solving challenging technical problems with innovative solutions in a team environment.
  • Success in directly or indirectly leading a team to accomplish technical, quality and timing commitments.
  • Ability to work with diverse global teams both internally and externally (suppliers).
  • Concise communication skills, detail-oriented mindset, and is a strong team player.
  • Motorcycle rider or desire to learn is appreciated.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
