Job description

Overview

The YMCA of Springfield is seeking fitness professional to lead classes for YMCA fitness programs (TRX, Spinal Injury, etc).

The Program Coach guidesย participantsย in Health & Wellness Programsย in a safe, enjoyable, and positiveย environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.ย 

Responsibilities
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and fitness trends to provide effective information and support to participants
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Demonstrates self-confidence
  • Attends team challenges and encourages participation fromย group. Program coach will check in with participants whoย failed toย participateย in challenge within 24 hours
  • Attendsย coaches' meetings
  • Attends mandatory department and association meetings
  • Upholds all duties inย accompanying addendumย specific to the associated program

  • Provide customer service that is thorough,ย timely,ย organizedย andย accurate.ย ย 
  • Help ensure the Yย is meetingย member and participant needs byย utilizingย good listening skills, attentiveness,ย objectivityย and patience in all situations.ย 
  • Place members and participants as the first and highest priority showing kindness andย compassion at all times.ย ย 
  • Demonstratesย the Yย core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through all daily activities and responsibilitiesย 

Child Abuse Policies & Prevention:ย The YMCA enforces policies to prevent child abuse. Allegations or suspicions are taken seriously and reported to authorities. Procedures include unscheduled visits, open doors for parents, and a code of conduct for staff. We screen carefully to prevent abusers from being hired and provide child abuse prevention training to staff. Employees whoย fail toย support these policies will be subject to discipline, up to termination.ย 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.ย ย The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,ย skillย and/or ability required.ย ย Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.ย 

  • Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED.ย 
  • Holds a nationally accreditedย certification in either group exercise or personal training.ย 
  • Ability to analyze andย modifyย exercise progressionย and regression.ย 
  • Can detect failure in a movement patternย 
  • At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classesย preferred.ย 
  • Have leadership competencies in the identified key areasย 
  • Ability to learn quickly.ย 
  • Ability to work with integrity,ย discretionย and a professional approach.ย 
  • Prefer knowledge of, andย previousย experienceย with,ย diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).ย 
  • Ability to complete all required trainings withinย 60 daysย of employment, including but not limited to CPR, first aid, Living Our Cause, DCFS Mandated Report, IL Gateway Registry Modules and toย maintainย these certifications as current as outlined by regulations or requirements.ย

  • May require physical effort while reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, balancing, bending, leaning, kneeling,ย walkingย and climbing.ย 
  • Specifically,ย 
  • Walking up and down stairs multiple times a day.ย 
  • Carrying supplies to and from work locations, normally lifting less than 25lbs.ย 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
