Job Title: Part-Time Custodian

Location: Flint Cultural Center Corporation

Reports To: Custodial Supervisor – Facilities Department

FLSA Status: Non – Exempt


The majority of our part-time openings require the ability to work evenings, overnight hours and/or weekends. The pay rate is $14.00/hr. Part-time employees are scheduled to work a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week, but no more than twenty-nine (29) hours per week on a regular basis. Part-time employees are eligible to receive partial benefits.

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian will be responsible for the high quality, day-to-day cleaning of one or more of the facilities located on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. The daily responsibilities of this position will involve general cleaning, cyclical cleaning and special request cleaning of facilities. The Custodian is also responsible for standard set-ups and tear downs of classrooms and community rooms.


DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
  • Keeps building in orderly condition.
  • Dusts furniture, walls, equipment and unrestricted areas.
  • Cleans windows, mirrors and partitions with cleaner.
  • Follows procedures for use of chemicals and cleaning equipment to prevent damage and maintenance to the floors.
  • Informs Custodial Supervisor of any unsafe or broken building hardware or exhibit components, and the need for maintenance or repairs.
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums or scrubs all floors.
  • Gathers and empties trash.
  • Cleaning of classrooms, café, theaters, kitchens, common areas and offices.
  • Clean barriers and hands on components after training.
  • Empty and dispose of trash daily.
  • Reports any light bulbs or broken fixtures needed.
  • Assist other staff members as time and schedule permits.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of trucks when necessary.
  • Setting up areas for activities as needed.
  • Refers and adheres to checklist for cyclical cleaning tasks.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements:
  1. Evidence of stable education and/or work history.
  2. Prior experience as a custodian or in the cleaning field is preferred.
  3. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to properly perform the above duties.
  5. Ability to interact with the public in a pleasant manner while performing job related duties.
  6. Ability to follow proper cleaning procedures and safety issues in cleaning human fluids and other hazardous materials.
  7. Ability to use cleaning products and chemicals and follow safety procedures.
  8. Understand the importance of collections and artifacts: will not clean and or move any artifact or enter collection spaces without the consent of the Curator of Collections or their staff.
  9. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  10. Must be able to remain on feet for prolonged periods of time.
  11. Regular and prompt attendance at work.
