Job Description

JOB DETAILS:

Shift: 7:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday (Saturdays as needed, some on-call as well)

As the Safety Technician, you'll have the opportunity to perform environmental, health & safety activities in an industrial setting to ensure compliance with occupational environmental, health & safety regulations by performing the following duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on provisions needed to minimize safety risks.
  • Develop and enforce Ply Gem health & safety policies as well as applicable occupational environmental, health & safety regulatory standards.
  • Direct incident investigation procedures.
  • Keep records of environmental, health & safety-related workplace incidents and propose corrective actions.
  • Train associates on environmental, health & safety requirements to ensure compliance with Ply Gem policies as well as applicable Federal and State environmental, health & safety standards.
  • Monitor, assist with and ensure compliance with written health, safety & environmental programs.
  • Identify safety hazards and prepare reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Coordinate or assist with required annual occupational health exams (ex.: hearing tests).
  • Investigate and determine root cause of incidents to identify preventative safety measures for incorporation into the safety program.
  • Conduct trend analysis, audits, incident investigations and site inspections of operational procedures
  • Coordinate with responsible facility personnel to consistently maintain adequate safety supplies & equipment including inventory, disbursement, ordering, expiration dates, etc.
  • Render First Aid care to associates as needed.
  • Work closely with management and associates in promoting a safety awareness and hazard prevention culture.
  • Meet EHS requirements in accomplishing responsibilities of this position complying with all policies or regulations set forth by Ply Gem, or various government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicles, and any related items.
  • Perform or assist with new hire orientation and annual safety training.
  • Conduct Personal Protective Equipment hazard assessments of all Production positions.
  • Intervene in unsafe activities or operations.
  • Ability to multitask and work competently under pressure - performing more than one duty or function at the same time and ability to appropriately prioritize most important as well as time sensitive tasks.
  • Participate in and coordinate Walk and Talk program.

Perform other duties as assigned by the EHS Department 

Qualifications
  • A high degree of integrity, professionalism, attitude, confidentiality and performance.
  • Model safe behavior at all times and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in all areas and settings requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Pay attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • 3 years of experience with Microsoft Office software.
  • The ability to work independently or with others.
  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • The ability to write routine reports and correspondence and use a computer, printer, copier and other common business office equipment. Ability to speak effectively before various groups of associates of the organization.
  • The ability to work effectively with people in a fast-paced environment
  • A company oriented mindset.
  • The ability to travel between locations as required.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office programs (primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general occupational environmental, health and safety aspects of manufacturing/industrial work settings.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) in Spanish is required.

PREFERRED

  • Secondary education (some college) is desirable.
  • Competent person or subject matter expert experience and knowledge in Environmental, Health and Safety in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment.
