What are part time live-in nannies?

Part time live-in nannies are childcare professionals who reside in their employer's home but work a set number of hours per week, rather than full-time. They typically provide care for children during scheduled hours, and may assist with tasks such as preparing meals, helping with homework, and engaging children in activities. Outside of their working hours, they often have free time to pursue their own interests, but remain available for emergencies. Families may choose a part time live-in nanny for greater flexibility and reliable childcare support.

To thrive as a Part Time Live In Nanny, you generally need experience in childcare, a high school diploma or equivalent, and often CPR and first aid certification. Familiarity with household management tools, scheduling apps, and sometimes early childhood development resources is beneficial. Patience, reliability, flexibility, and strong communication skills help build trust and positive relationships with both children and parents. These skills are crucial for ensuring children's safety, supporting their development, and maintaining a harmonious household environment.

What are some common challenges faced by part time live-in nannies, and how can they be managed effectively?

Part time live-in nannies often face the challenge of maintaining clear boundaries between work and personal time, since they reside in their employer's home. It's important to establish a clear schedule and communicate regularly with the family to ensure expectations are understood. Another common challenge is adapting to each family's unique routines and parenting styles, which can be managed by being flexible and open to feedback. Building strong, respectful relationships with both the children and parents can help create a positive and supportive work environment.

More details:
A family in Marlton, NJ, is seeking a dedicated, long-term nanny and family assistant who will become a trusted and consistent member of their household support team. The primary responsibility is caring for their 9-year-old child.

The schedule is every other week, Monday through Friday, with the following hours: 6:00 AM to 8:30 AM, then from 2:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The position also includes overnight care on occasions when the parent is traveling, with additional compensation provided for overnight responsibilities.

The nanny will be compensated for 100 hours per month, even though the family only requires approximately 80% of that time. This additional allocation is to provide flexibility and acknowledge the family's unique circumstances as a divorced household, ensuring the nanny has a stable and secure income.
Duties Include:
The main focus is caring for the child during the mother's parenting weeks, including managing morning routines such as breakfast, preparation for school, and ensuring the child boards the bus safely. After school, duties include transportation to extracurricular activities, homework assistance, dinner preparation, and overseeing the evening routine until the mother returns from work.

When the child is at school or with the father, the role extends to family assistant duties such as laundry, meal prep, grocery shopping, running errands, household organization, maintaining common areas, and scheduling appointments as needed to support household functionality. While the position is not primarily custodial housekeeping, the ideal candidate will enjoy organization and demonstrate initiative. Responsibilities also include preparing meals for the child, managing children's laundry, light tidying, coordinating appointments, handling household bills, and managing occasional home-related tasks such as Amazon or other retail returns and providing access to contractors when necessary.
Ideal Candidate:
The preferred candidate is warm, dependable, organized, proactive, and an excellent communicator. The successful applicant will display emotional maturity, patience, trustworthiness, and confidence in caring for school-aged children. A proactive approach, adaptability, strong time management, and the ability to anticipate household needs are highly valued.

Experience supporting children with ADHD or executive functioning challenges is a significant plus. The candidate should be skilled in establishing consistent routines, structure, and positive reinforcement. A safe driving record, sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and flexibility are required. Ultimately, seeking someone committed to building a long-term, trusting relationship with our family and becoming a positive, reliable presence in our child's life.
About the Family:
The child is a kind-hearted, creative, intelligent, humorous, and energetic 9-year-old. He has a particular interest in social studies and science but finds math more challenging. His after-school activities include sports, tutoring, and occasional playdates.

The family environment is warm, respectful, organized, and family-centered. The mother, a senior executive, is hands-on and values consistency, clear communication, and kindness. The parents are divorced and share custody, with a focus on providing stability and support across both homes to help their son feel secure, supported, and encouraged.

Discipline is centered around setting clear expectations within a positive and supportive environment, emphasizing respect, accountability, and teamwork. Approaches are calm and respectful, with age-appropriate consequences aimed at teaching and guiding rather than punishing. Patience and flexibility are essential when addressing behavior and challenges.
Benefits:
Salary plus paid vacation days off, paid holidays off, paid sick days off, and paid personal days off.
Position Code: G749MT
