Description
Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is seeking Substitute Teachers for 2026 -2027 school year.
The ideal substitute teacher is flexible, organized, compassionate, and able to confidently manage a classroom while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education. Substitute teachers are expected to follow lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher, foster respectful student behavior, and ensure the well-being of every student throughout the school day. The substitute teacher is hired and appraised by the Principal and is expected to abide by the established policies and procedures of the Diocese of Richmond, particularly the Office of Catholic Schools.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities prepared by the classroom teacher.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, including lunch, recess, and transitions as assigned.
  • Encourage students' academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth.
  • Communicate effectively with school administration and staff regarding the day's activities.
  • Uphold the policies, procedures, and Catholic mission of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School.
  • Help maintain a safe environment and follow the approved procedures regarding the health and safety of the students
  • Maintain high professional and ethical standards in all school-related activities
  • Foster Christian values and behavior among students while promoting the Catholic identity of the school through knowledge and respect for Catholic Tradition

Physical Demands/Environment:
The teacher is expected to supervise students and the safe environment of the school, and may involve work in classrooms, the computer lab, the library, and other parts of our campus.
