Genesee Lake School (GLS), a MyPath Company, is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to help prepare and serve nutritious meals for students and staff. Job Summary:
We are looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Kitchen Assistant to join our Food Services team. In this role, you will support the preparation, organization, and delivery of meals in accordance with established dietary plans and food safety protocols. Your work helps create a comfortable and consistent dining experience that directly supports the health and well-being of our students and team members. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys kitchen work, values consistency and cleanliness, and wants to be part of a mission-driven team.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation and Service
  • Assist in preparing and serving meals that are nutritious, appealing, and aligned with daily menus
  • Support the Cook in preparing special meals for events such as birthdays, holidays, and off-site activities
  • Stay current with student food allergies, diet changes, gluten-free/dairy-free guidelines, and specialized meal plans for individuals
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper handwashing, glove use, and safe food handling

Sanitation and Cleanliness
  • Clean and sanitize food prep areas, equipment, carts, and the serving line after each use
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, storerooms, refrigerators, freezers, and restrooms
  • Wash dishes and utensils using a commercial dishwasher or by hand as needed

Inventory and Organization
  • Put away food deliveries and assist with checking inventory
  • Complete daily checklists and maintain records such as production logs, temperature charts, and cleaning logs
  • Review menus daily and help plan ahead for necessary food preparation

Team Collaboration & Communication
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with the Cook, Food Services Supervisor, and other team members
  • Follow all company policies, health and safety guidelines, and confidentiality expectations
  • Stay current on food allergies, student dietary needs, and ServSafe food handler certification (company-paid if not yet certified)

Schedule
  • Ability to work 10:00am-6:00pm on weekends as needed.
  • Working every other weekend 10am-6pm as a set schedule strongly preferred.
  • Ability to pick up shifts as needed Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • ServSafe food handler certification preferred or must be obtained during probationary period (company-paid)
  • One year of experience in food preparation or working in a commercial kitchen preferred

Required Skills & Attributes:
  • Ability to maintain a calm and effective demeanor in emergency and stressful situations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to follow recipes, food safety procedures, and kitchen protocols.
  • Comfortable working in both hot and cold environments (e.g., ovens, freezers

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods
