Job description

Overview

The IT Infrastructure Intern will be responsible for assisting the IT Technical Services team with building and deploying laptops, desktops and other computing solutions. The Infrastructure Intern will also be involved with other occasional projects involving the deployment, support or recycling of network, computing, or mobile devices utilized by our end users.It's a great opportunity to learn technology, customer service and support, end user documentation authoring, process development and general business skills! This position is Limited Term; with the internship available for up to one year from the date of hire. The program requires 20 hours per week. Schedule can be flexible to support academic commitments. There may be opportunities to work additional hours during the summer or over the holidays.ย  The IT Infrastructure Intern must effectively carry out the essential duties of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates the core values of the organization in a positive manner.

Responsibilities

PC/Laptop/VDI Build and Deployment

  • Assist in the build and deployment of all end user computing solutions utilized by UW Credit Union employee members.
  • Schedule and coordinate with end users, install required applications, migrate user settings/preferences, test and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Work with the end user to validate that everything is working to their satisfaction.
  • Perform in-place or replacement upgrades of Windows.

Office Moves

  • Assist with moving staff from one location to another and move staff from one area of a building to another following a move plan and move schedule.
  • Disconnect and reconnect PCs, monitors and peripherals.
  • Manages and organizes cables for office equipment.

Miscellaneous Project Work

  • Participate in structured project work focused on developing foundational knowledge of network infrastructure and system operations.
  • Coordinate and help recycle end-of-life computing equipment.
  • Author end user documentation.
  • Perform general organization/cleaning of lab/build areas.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Current enrollment in college as a junior or senior is required.ย 
  • Enrollment in a Technology program is preferred.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience working in a former role that involved providing excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills with comfort/ease, communicate clearly and interact professionally with other employees.
  • The ability to follow directions, stay focused, complete assigned tasks.
