Job description

JOB PURPOSE
The Research and Business Intelligence Analyst will conduct legal research to support attorneys in case related matters and will also conduct business development research to assist attorneys and staff in identifying prospective clients, preparing for client presentations and pitches, and strengthening relationships with existing clients. This position reports to the Manager of Research, Business Intelligence, and AI Enablement and works closely with the Marketing & Business Development team.
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a part-time position expected to average 20-25 hours per week. The firm offers flexibility in scheduling, with hours to be determined based on the selected candidate's availability and department needs. To support collaboration with the Research & Business Intelligence team, the selected candidate will be expected to work in the Minneapolis office one day each week, with Tuesday or Friday preferred. Due to the part-time classification of this role, this position is not benefit eligible.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct legal research, business research, competitive intelligence, and other ad hoc research for all attorneys and staff members at the firm, using a wide variety of electronic and print resources
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of companies, industries, markets, and competitors, delivering objective, meaningful insights in a concise and compelling way
  • Distill and provide intelligence to create actionable information for business and client development strategy as well as client pitch meetings
  • Coordinate production and delivery of standard customized research deliverables as well as larger and more in-depth research requests
  • Monitor and report on legal and client market trends
  • Perform administrative duties as needed for the department (i.e. password management, case pulls, online billing reports, book purchasing and borrowing, general reference requests, etc.)
  • Assist with other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the department manager

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in a legal, corporate, professional services or academic environment required.
  • Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), MBA or JD preferred.
  • Prior law firm library experience is strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
Work is performed in a professional office environment and requires the following during the workday:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time (working at a computer)
  • Ability to move/traverse throughout the office intermittently throughout the day (attend meetings, access file cabinets, obtain supplies from supply room, etc.)
  • Operate computer and other office equipment such as a copy machine, printer, telephone, etc.
  • Repetitive movement (i.e. heavy computer/keyboard use).
  • Individual will interact regularly with others verbally, in-person, and via written communication.
  • May require occasional light lifting (files, copy paper, etc.).

The hourly pay rate for this position is $37.70 - $41.34 per hour, depending on experience. This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job related factors permitted by law.
