What is a part time instructor?

A part-time instructor is an educator who teaches courses or leads classes on a less than full-time basis, often at colleges, universities, or vocational schools. They may be hired for a specific semester or course and typically do not carry the same administrative or research responsibilities as full-time faculty. Part-time instructors are often professionals in their fields who bring practical experience to the classroom. Their flexible schedules can accommodate other professional commitments or personal obligations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time instructor?

To thrive as a Part Time Instructor, you need subject matter expertise, teaching experience, and at least a bachelor's degree (often a master's or higher) in the relevant field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas or Blackboard and digital presentation tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, organization, and adaptability help instructors engage diverse learners and manage varying schedules. These skills ensure effective knowledge transfer, student engagement, and adaptability to different classroom environments.

What are some common challenges faced by part time instructors and how can they be managed?

Part-time instructors often balance teaching with other professional or personal commitments, which can make time management a key challenge. They may also have limited access to campus resources or less involvement in departmental activities compared to full-time faculty. Building connections with students and colleagues within a compressed schedule can be difficult, but staying organized, proactively communicating with department staff, and utilizing available institutional support services can help manage these challenges effectively.

About the Role

Inspire and Educate Children.  We are Bricks 4 Kidz and we are seeking energetic, reliable instructors to lead hands-on STEM programs for elementary-aged students using LEGO®-based curriculum. This is not passive childcare—this role requires strong classroom management, structure, and the ability to confidently lead a group.
Instructors are responsible for delivering structured lessons, maintaining control of the classroom, and creating an engaging learning environment while ensuring students stay focused and on-task.
Key Responsibilities

  •  Lead structured STEM lessons using pre-designed Bricks 4 Kidz curriculum
  •  Maintain strong classroom control with groups of 10–20 students
  •  Set clear expectations and enforce rules consistently
  •  Keep students engaged, on-task, and respectful
  •  Manage setup, cleanup, and care of materials/equipment
  •  Represent the brand professionally at schools, camps, and events
  •  Adapt to different school environments and student behaviors
Required Qualifications

  •  Experience working with children (teaching, coaching, childcare, camps, etc.)
  •  Ability to confidently manage and control a classroom
  •  Strong communication and leadership skills
  •  Dependable, punctual, and responsive
  •  Willingness to travel locally to schools and program sites
  •  Must pass background check
Preferred Qualifications

  •  Education, psychology, or related field (student or graduate)
  •  Prior classroom teaching or group leadership experience
  •  Experience handling challenging behavior or high-energy groups
What We’re Looking For

This role is not a fit for candidates who:
  •  Struggle to enforce rules or maintain authority
  •  Prefer a passive or “hands-off” teaching style
  •  Are inconsistent with attendance or reliability
This role is ideal for candidates who:
  •  Naturally take charge in group settings
  •  Are comfortable being firm, fair, and structured
  •  Step up when needed and take ownership
Schedule

  •  Weekday afternoons (after-school programs)
  •  Occasional evenings/weekends (events & camps)
  •  Flexible but must have consistent availability
Compensation

  •  Competitive pay (based on experience)
  •  Paid training provided
