Job description

JOB IDENTIFICATION

Job Title: Group Exercise Instructor

Location: Southeast and Northwest Branches FLSA Status: Part-time

Reports to: Group Exercise Program Director

Salary Range: $15-$25/hour depending upon experience

POSITION SUMMARY

The Monroe County YMCA is currently seeking part-time enthusiastic, group exercise instructors to teach a variety of group exercise classes! We are specifically looking for individuals to teach strength-based classes and boot camp-style classes in the early AM, evenings, and/or weekends.

A YMCA Group Exercise Instructor provides quality instruction in a group setting which contributes to each member's health and fitness goals. Instructors must follow group exercise professional standards, build positive relationships with members and staff, and exhibit the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide a safe group exercise class with appropriate and varied movements.
  • Provide modifications for different levels while leading group exercise classes.
  • Always ensure the safety of all exercise participants.
  • Attempt to know each participant's name and his/her individual fitness goals.
  • Arrive early/stay late after class as needed to be available to members.
  • Monitor and record class attendance.
  • Ensure that equipment is in proper working order and that it is used correctly.
  • Notify supervisor of unsafe conditions, injuries, accidents, needed repairs or member complaints immediately.
  • Check communication outlets routinely (email, Group Ex Pro).
  • Follow YMCA substitution policies and be willing to sub for others.
  • Attend all fitness meetings and training sessions.
  • Be familiar with all emergency procedures, exits and codes.
  • Keep all certifications current.
  • Be a team player.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current CPR Certification and Blood Borne Pathogens training can be obtained at the YMCA and must be completed within 30 days of employment.
  • Yoga instructors must have a minimum of 200 Yoga Alliance Approved Certificate of Training.
  • Pilates instructors must have a certificate of completion from an authorized Pilates Certification Program.
  • All other land-based, aquatics, and cycling instructors must have a National certification through an organization that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA); upon employment or within six months of hire date.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and motivational with large groups.
  • Possess good verbal and interpersonal skills.
