Job description

Advancing Whole Health Program Coach (Part-Time, Bilingual Spanish Required)

The Greater Richmond YMCA is currently seeking a Bilingual (Spanish) Advancing Whole Health Program Coach to facilitate and lead evidence-based community health programs, including Life Long Essentials of Activity & Nutrition (L.E.A.N), LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA and the YMCA Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program. The Program Coach may also provide biometric screenings, health coaching, participant recruitment, and limited administrative support as assigned based on program needs. The pay range for this position is $20-$21 per hour based on experience & qualifications.

Duties of an Advancing Whole Health Program Coach

The Advancing Whole Health Program Coach will work approximately 5-15 hours per week and is responsible for delivering high-quality chronic disease prevention and management programs that empower participants to improve their health and well-being. The Coach will facilitate individual and small-group sessions, support participant engagement and retention, perform basic health screenings as assigned, maintain accurate program records, and provide ongoing motivation and encouragement to participants pursuing healthier lifestyles.

Candidates must be able to work occasional evenings and travel to YMCA locations throughout the Greater Richmond area.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Experience in health and wellness coaching, fitness instruction, chronic disease prevention, community health, or behavior change programming
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience utilizing health coaching, Listen First, and/or Motivational Interviewing techniques
  • Ability to travel to YMCA locations within the Greater Richmond area
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to work across multiple digital platforms
  • Ability to maintain participant confidentiality and comply with organizational privacy and compliance standards
  • Demonstrated passion for helping individuals achieve health and wellness goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or coursework in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Public Health, Recreation, Health Education, Nutrition, Nursing, Athletic Training, or a related health and fitness field
  • Experience facilitating group exercise, wellness programs, chronic disease management programs, or health education programs
  • YMCA Healthy Living certification(s) or related wellness certifications
  • Experience conducting biometric screenings or health assessments
  • Skills in motivational interviewing, behavior change coaching, and participant engagement
  • Experience with data collection, documentation, and outcome tracking

Required Qualifications

  • Spanish language proficiency required
  • Reliable transportation; this position requires in-person engagement at multiple YMCA and community locations
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification required upon hire
