Starting Salary Range:  AJCR $1,262-$1,404 per credit hour and in accordance with the adjunct table and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.

Position Summary: The Foreign Language department is seeking a German adjunct professor to teach Elementary and Intermediate level German language. JCCC is located in Overland Park, KS, the second largest city in the state of Kansas and part of the greater Kansas City Metro. The Kansas City Metro is known for its museums, restaurants, and music and art scenes. JCCC is similarly dedicated to creating and maintaining a rich cultural community, with an award-winning contemporary art museum and center for the performing arts located on campus.

JCCC is looking for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the Foreign Language Department to serve as a substitute or teach Elementary and Intermediate German in the day or evening in the summer, spring, or fall semesters in person and live online (Zoom). The Foreign Language Department is part of the Communications Division.

The successful applicant for this job may teach the equivalent of 5-10 credit hours or serve as a substitute professor. This person will perform other duties expected of adjunct faculty, to include collaborating and working successfully with other full-time and adjunct faculty in the Foreign Language department and other duties as assigned.
Additional responsibilities:
Provide extra and co-curricular opportunities for German language students.
Participate in the planning and administration of all departmental initiatives.
Participate in on-campus events promoting languages.
Complete ACTFL and/or other departmental training.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Candidates will be interviewed and will be asked to demonstrate a 30-minute class in person or on Zoom.

Required Qualifications:

• M.A. degree in German or an MA in a related discipline with at least 18 hours of graduate work in German as required by JCCC HLC criteria.
• Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate German courses.
• Demonstrated excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of using technology in the classroom.
• Demonstrated ability to teach online using zoom or a platform like Zoom.
• Demonstrated 2 years teaching experience at the post-secondary level and/or 4 years of high school teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated understanding of the climate of post-secondary institutions.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
• Documentation from ACTFL (OPI) of advanced mid or higher in German.
• Ability to teach Chinese, Spanish, Japanese or French with HLC credentials.
• PhD in German.
• Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate German language courses.
