What You'll Need:

  • North Carolina and American Speech / Language Association Certification
  • Must be a High School or GED Diploma Graduate. Masters in Communication Disorders

What You'll Do:

  • Performs appropriate patient assessments resulting in an effective treatment plan.
  • Reassesses patients at appropriate intervals of time demonstrating the ability to observe treatment effect and modify the plan of care as indicated.
  • Involves the patient and /or family in the assessment process and the formation of the care plan.
  • Provides care in accordance with physician's orders.
  • Demonstrates appropriate case management to ensure quality of care and best patient outcome.
  • Communicates appropriately to physicians, nurses, case managers, and other members of the health care team to ensure care is collaborative and appropriate.
  • Assesses and documents patient outcomes criteria at the initial and discharge evaluations. (all shoulder, back, incontinence, and anodyne).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of speech therapy modalities / treatments and performs correctly.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in using equipment pertinent to providing speech therapy services.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning.
  • Includes the family in teaching as appropriate.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Documentation is legible.
  • No inappropriate abbreviations are used.
  • Documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Medical Records are closed as per policy.
  • Time is adequately documented in the assessments and daily treatment notes.
  • Each charge bill adequately reflects all services provided.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics.
  • Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly.
  • Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors.
