Job Title: FILM AND NON-FILM RADIOGRAPHY/LIQUID PENETRANT TECHNICIAN LEVEL llEmployment Status:

Director of Quality/NDT SupervisorSummary Description:
Radiograph utilizing film and non-film processes and accept/reject aluminum castings. Perform various liquid penetrant test functions on castings to detect flaws, cracks or presence of foreign materials. Direct or carry out tests in the method certified, to the prescribed process specification. Set-up and calibrate equipment, where applicable, and interpret and evaluate results with reference to applicable codes, standards and specifications. Apply familiarity with the scope and limitations for the method and apply detailed techniques to the parts within the limit of his/her qualifications. Organize and report test results and prepare written instructions. Use familiarity with the type and location of expected defects for the fabrication process used to make the parts and exercise assigned responsibility for on-the-job training and guidance of trainees and Level I personnel.Essential Functions:
  • Align object on stand between source of x-rays and film
  •  Mask peripheral areas with lead shields
  • Select type of film, and determine exposure distance and time
  • Verify radiation intensities
  • Adjust controls of x-ray equipment on console to take radiograph               
  • Remove and develop film
  • Monitor working area to protect personnel
  • Mark defects appearing on film and assist in analyzing findings
  • Set up and shoot castings using DDA Radiography equipment and techniques
  • Move castings through liquid penetrant process by lowering and raising individual castings or  baskets of castings in and out of tanks
  • Perform visual inspections in accordance with specifications and record result s         
  • Perform required checks and calibrations to customer and industry specifications
  • Investigate suspected discontinuities in castings using correct procedures and make accept/reject decisions based on those procedures
  • Preclean castings in wash line as necessary to prepare them for penetrant inspection
  • Perform any and all other job related tasks as assigned
Skills or Experience Required:
Must have High School diploma or GED; Radiation Safety Card for the state of Texas (preferred); Level II Penetrant (PT) certification; Level II Film Radiography (RT) certification; Level II Non-film Radiography (CR or DR) certification (preferred) must have 40 hours of formal training/1200 hours experience as a Level I on Radiographic, and 16 hours of formal training/270 hours experience as a Level I on Liquid Penetrant.Other Position Demands or Requirements:
Must be able to use the following machines, tools, equipment and/or work aids:
RT: X-Ray Machines: Phillips M.C. 160KV and Gulmay MP1 320KV; fully automatic Agfa NDT-U film processor; Penetrex High Intensity Dual Window, Model 65C1 Viewers; light meter; magnifying glasses 3X to 10X; penetrameters; lead screens; light tight vinyl cassettes; X-Rite Model 30 densitometer; Agfa- Gavert Class and Class II safety films;
PT: Fluorescent Penetrant ZL19 Magnaflux Corp; Sensitivity Fluorescent Penetrant ZL60C Magnaflux; Sensitivity Dry Developer Zp4B Magnaflux Corp; Water Suspendible Developer ZPSB Magnaflux Corp; Stationary open-air tanks; Recirculating hot air dryer; black lights.
