Do you enjoy working outdoors, supporting local vendors, and creating welcoming community experiences? The Village of DeForest is seeking a dependable and organized seasonal, part-time Farmers Market Manager to oversee the DeForest Area Farmers Market.


This role is perfect for someone who enjoys community engagement, event coordination, and hands-on work in a lively outdoor setting.


Overview

The Farmers Market Manager is responsible for coordinating weekly market operations, supporting vendors, assisting with special events, and ensuring a positive experience for shoppers and participants. This position serves as the on-site lead and the welcoming face of the market.


Hours: Approximately 400 hours per year
Schedule: Average 5 hours/week during the 21-week market season, plus limited off-season hours
Pay Rate: Starting at $15.00 per hour


Market Schedule:
Tuesdays, June 2 October 20, 2026
3:30 PM 6:30 PM
(The Market Manager must attend every market, unless arrangements are made in advance. Arrival by 2:00 pm.)


Duties

Market Operations & Vendor Coordination
Set up and take down market equipment, manage vendor attendance and payments, maintain records, enforce market guidelines, and serve as the primary on-site contact for vendors and customers.


Special Events Support
Coordinate weekly musicians and assist with special events by working with staff, sponsors, and community organizations to enhance market activities and promotion.


Market Management & Customer Experience
Provide a welcoming presence at the market, resolve issues professionally, support SNAP EBT transactions, and offer ideas to improve market operations.


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and valid drivers license required

Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills

Ability to work independently, stay organized, and follow instructions

Comfortable enforcing policies and handling conflict professionally

Self-motivated, dependable, and able to interact positively with the public

Ability to independently set up market tents and signage


This paid position works primarily outdoors and requires working in a variety of weather conditions.
