Job description

Description Position Summary The Part-Time Outreach Specialist supports Johnston Community College's recruitment and enrollment efforts by serving as a welcoming and knowledgeable representative of the college both on campus and throughout the community. This position assists with outreach events, campus visits, recruitment activities, and prospective student engagement while helping individuals navigate the admissions and enrollment process. The Outreach Specialist works collaboratively with the Student Success Center team to promote educational opportunities, build relationships with community partners and local schools, and provide exceptional customer service to prospective and current students.

Knowledge & Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities Recruitment & Outreach Represent Johnston Community College at recruitment events, college fairs, high school visits, community events, and campus programs. Assist with planning, coordinating, and participating in outreach initiatives designed to increase student enrollment. Conduct presentations to prospective students, parents, and community organizations.

Assist with campus tours and information sessions for individuals and groups. Build positive relationships with local schools, community organizations, and business partners. Student Engagement Provide excellent customer service to prospective students through phone, email, text, and in-person interactions.

Answer questions regarding admissions, academic programs, financial aid resources, student services, and enrollment processes. Assist students with completing admissions applications and connecting with appropriate campus resources. Follow up with prospective students regarding enrollment next steps.

Event Support Assist with planning and implementing enrollment events such as Jag Ready, Open House, New Student Orientation, and other recruitment activities. Help prepare recruitment materials, displays, giveaways, and event logistics. Set up and break down event spaces as needed.

Represent the Student Success Center at both daytime and occasional evening or weekend events. Administrative Support Maintain accurate records of outreach activities using the College's customer relationship management (CRM) system. Assist with data entry, communication campaigns, and prospective student tracking.

Prepare recruitment materials and promotional items. Perform other duties as assigned that support Student Success Center operations. Minimum & Preferred Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution; bachelor's degree preferred.

One year of experience in customer service, recruitment, education, admissions, student services, marketing, or a related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic technology applications. Valid North Carolina driver's license with the ability to travel locally. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in higher education or community outreach.

Experience presenting to groups of varying sizes. Familiarity with CRM systems such as Element451. Experience working with diverse student populations.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Additional Information Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, faculty, staff, and community members. Strong organizational and time management skills.

Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting. Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to student success.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during recruitment events.

Ability to lift and transport recruitment materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to travel throughout Johnston County and surrounding areas. Work Schedule This is a part-time position working up to 29 hours per week.

The schedule may vary based on departmental needs and will include occasional evening and weekend hours for recruitment events, orientations, and community outreach activities.
