Part Time Editorial roles focus on overseeing content quality, editing, and publishing, often requiring editorial experience and credentials. Part Time Content Writers primarily produce written content, emphasizing strong writing skills. While both roles involve content creation, editorial positions are more focused on content management and quality control, whereas content writers concentrate on generating original content.

How does a part-time editorial role typically collaborate with full-time staff and contributors?

Part-time editorial professionals often work closely with full-time editors, writers, and designers to ensure content quality and consistency. Collaboration may happen through regular team meetings, shared digital platforms, and editorial calendars. While part-time staff may have flexible hours, they are usually expected to meet specific deadlines and stay in sync with the publication’s workflow. Open communication and adaptability are key, as priorities can shift quickly in editorial environments. Building strong relationships with both in-house and freelance contributors enhances the overall editorial process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Editorial professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Editorial professional, you need strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or communications. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), style guides, and editing tools like Microsoft Word or Grammarly is typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and effective communication are essential soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure content accuracy, maintain editorial standards, and enable efficient collaboration in a deadline-driven environment.

What is a part time editorial job?

A part time editorial job involves working fewer than full-time hours in roles related to editing, reviewing, or creating content for publications such as magazines, newspapers, websites, or publishing houses. Responsibilities often include editing articles for grammar and style, fact-checking, and collaborating with writers and other editors. These positions are ideal for individuals seeking flexible schedules, such as students, freelancers, or those balancing multiple commitments. Part time editorial roles can be remote or onsite and may serve as a stepping stone to full-time careers in publishing or communications.

Job description

2026-2027 Editorial Fellowship
Gulfshore Life seeks an Editorial Fellow to join the team for 2026-2027 as we continue to elevate and evolve our brand.
Who We Are: Established in 1970, Gulfshore Life is a luxury lifestyle publication that covers the people, places and culture of Southwest Florida (Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties). We produce 12 issues a year, in addition to several special edition publications.
What We're Looking For: An early career journalist, recent graduate or graduate student who is enthusiastic about diving into the Southwest Florida community, from the latest restaurant openings to the theater companies leading the charge on inclusive arts programming to the initiatives shaping the future of Everglades conservation. The ideal candidate will have strong writing, communication, media literacy and research skills, as well as a demonstrated interest in the lifestyle topics we cover (dining, arts and culture, design, health and wellness, fashion, philanthropy, nature and recreation). Previous editorial experience, including internships and positions at college magazines, or comparable experience is preferred.
What You'll Do: This is an opportunity for the right candidate to build their portfolio, develop editorial skills, and work with a tight-knit team of editors with experience in the national, regional and luxury spaces. You will:
  • Assist as we conceive and execute a monthly lifestyle publication, as well as special issues focused on home design, health, ultra-luxury lifestyle and more.
  • Attend editorial meetings and pitch ideas for future issues.
  • Research stories and network with businesses and individuals in the community.
  • Produce a weekly internal newsletter with timely leads and Southwest Florida news.
  • Fact-check stories to the point of unequivocal accuracy.
  • Help maintain our dining and culture section listings.
  • Write blog posts for our digital platforms.
  • Source photography, proof stories and perform general administrative duties.
Position is part-time (up to 29 hours max per week). Biweekly pay is $14/hour.
If this sounds like you, please attach a cover letter, resume and writing samples.
Note: Fellowships are conducted onsite at the Gulfshore Life offices in Bonita Springs. This fellowship is a 10-month position, with potential for growth.
