Job description

Driving Instructor – Part Time (Growth to Full Time)
Emerald Coast Driving School

We are looking for a calm, patient, safety-focused instructor to teach real-world driving skills. This position is not a typical office job — it is hands-on instruction in traffic, neighborhoods, highways, and real driving situations.
Most of our students are brand-new teen drivers learning for the first time. We also work with occasional adult drivers who are completing court-ordered instruction or driver rehabilitation programs in order to reinstate their driving privileges. The right candidate must be able to communicate clearly, stay composed under pressure, and coach both nervous beginners and more resistant or experienced drivers while maintaining a safe environment.
Important Schedule Information
This is NOT a Monday–Friday 9–5 position.
Students are in school during the day, so the majority of lessons occur:
• afternoons
• evenings
• weekends (REQUIRED)
Weekend availability is essential. Applicants who are only available weekdays will not be a fit for this role.
Responsibilities • Teach behind-the-wheel driving lessons
• Instruct teens and adults in safe driving habits
• Provide clear verbal coaching during lessons
• Communicate professionally with parents/guardians and adult students
• Complete brief lesson summaries after each session documenting skills practiced, strengths, and areas needing improvement
• Evaluate and improve driving behavior and decision-making
• Maintain professionalism and patience in all situations
• Follow state safety guidelines and company procedures
Requirements (Must Meet All) • Valid U.S. driver’s license with no suspensions, revocations, or lapses in license history
• Clean driving record (no recent violations or at-fault incidents)
• Must pass a criminal background check and driving record review
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Comfortable teaching both new and experienced drivers
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
• Willing to complete state certification requirements
Attendance & Reliability Students schedule lessons in advance and instructors often have full calendars. Missed shifts or last-minute call-outs significantly impact multiple families. We are looking for someone dependable with consistent availability and a demonstrated work history showing reliability and commitment in prior positions.
What We’re Looking For We are not just hiring a driver — we are hiring a coach and mentor. The ideal instructor can guide a nervous teen, explain progress to a parent, and document each lesson clearly and professionally.
This is a part-time position that can grow into full-time based on performance, referrals, and student successÂ
