Job description

Overview

Join our team as a Section 508 Document Remediation Specialist and support the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Public Affairs (OPA) by making critical documents accessible to all audiences. You will remediate print and digital materials for federal accessibility compliance, ensure every deliverable meets Section 508 and WCAG standards.

**Position is contingent upon contract award**

Work Schedule and Location:

Offsite: This part-time offsite position will work approximately 10 hours a week.   Candidates must be within 50 miles of DOL's Frances Perkins Building (FPB) headquarters in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities
  • Remediate documents to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Convert and format documents for compatibility with assistive technology (e.g., screen readers)
  • Apply accessibility standards to materials originally designed by other Creative Services staff, government personnel, and other agency contractors
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ADA, Rehabilitation Act, and IDEA accessibility requirements
  • Support documentation and testing needed for Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) as required
Qualifications

Required: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience remediating documents for Section 508 compliance
  • Active Trusted Tester Certification
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Acrobat / Acrobat Pro and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Intermediate-or-better skills in Adobe InDesign and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience with screen readers and other assistive technology tools (e.g., JAWS)
  • Working knowledge of the ADA, Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and IDEA
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Prior direct work experience with the DOL Office of Public Affairs Creative Services Division is required

Desired: 

  • Prior experience supporting a federal public affairs or creative services function
  • Experience remediating a high volume of graphic-heavy or infographic-style materials
