Job description

Job Title: Bed Board Controller

Location: Newark Beth Israel Medical Ctr

Department Name: Logistics

Pay Range: $21.50 - $26.50 per hour

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Bed Board Controller facilitates the timely and efficient bed placement of patients throughout the hospital as well as external patients transferring in. This will be achieved by utilizing critical thinking skills in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Previous hospital experience in an acute care facility
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Medical terminology knowledge and computer skills

Preferred:

  • Some college preferred
  • Experience as Bed Board Associate/Logistics Coordinator and/or Patient Access Position
  • Experience with bed placement processes and systems

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift- 3:00pm-11:00pm
  • Monday- Friday with rotating weekends/holidays
  • Part Time-Evening

Essential Functions:

  • Complete appropriate bed assignments based on the level of care ordered, the patient s sex, diagnosis, and other documented clinical needs
  • Ensures the bed management system reflects the accurate status of the bed, including the tracking of clean and unclean beds and isolation rooms
  • Manage patient throughput by prioritizing internal and external requests for admission and transfers using clinical assessment and approved criteria for level of care orders and bed assignments
  • Works in collaboration with nurses, physicians, and other disciplines
  • Collaborates and coordinate with members of the logistics command center including transport and environmental services to ensure timely cleaning of beds and transport of patients
  • Conducts daily rounds to collect real time census information, isolation status, clean beds, and additional pertinent information to help expedite admissions and transfers while also gathering information on discharges and barriers
  • Works closely with the Coordinator Logistics RN to prioritize and optimize patient flow activities
  • Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of patient information following the HIPPA Guidelines
  • Escalates when census and bed availability are at critical values
