What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Developer, you need strong programming skills, a solid understanding of software development principles, and often a degree or relevant experience in computer science. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, common frameworks (such as React or Django), and cloud platforms is typically expected. Excellent time management, communication, and the ability to quickly adapt to new tasks make someone stand out in this flexible role. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality code efficiently and collaborating effectively, even with limited hours or shifting project requirements.

How do part-time developers typically manage collaboration and communication with full-time team members?

Part-time developers often coordinate closely with full-time colleagues through scheduled check-ins, project management tools, and clear documentation to maintain alignment despite differing work hours. Many teams use asynchronous communication platforms like Slack or project boards such as Jira to ensure everyone stays updated on progress and blockers. Being proactive about sharing updates and clarifying expectations helps part-time developers integrate smoothly, contribute effectively, and avoid misunderstandings. This structure allows part-time developers to remain engaged and productive while balancing their flexible schedules.

What is a part time developer?

A part time developer is a software professional who works fewer hours than a full-time employee, typically on a contract or hourly basis. They may be responsible for writing code, debugging, testing, and maintaining applications, but their schedule is more flexible and limited compared to full-time developers. Part time developers are often hired by companies that need specialized skills or want to complete specific projects without committing to a full-time hire. This arrangement allows both employers and developers to have flexibility in work schedules and commitments.

Job description

Job Title: Lab Manager – Electronics Lab (Part-Time Contract)
Location: Longmont, CO 80501 (On-site)
Pay: $45–$50 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 4 hours/day | 20 hours/week
Type: W2 Contract (Part-Time)

Overview

We're hiring an experienced Lab Manager to own and run an Electronics Lab environment—someone who brings structure, accountability, and hands-on technical excellence. This role is not entry-level. You must have expert soldering skills, specifically BGA rework and BGA reballing, and be comfortable proving those skills in a practical demo.

If you take pride in keeping a lab organized, efficient, and "audit-ready" while also jumping in to perform high-precision rework, this is a strong fit.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Manage day-to-day electronics lab operations (equipment, inventory, organization, workspace standards)
  • Perform precision soldering and rework, including:
    • BGA rework (removal & replacement)
    • BGA reballing
    • Fine-pitch component soldering/rework
  • Maintain lab equipment, tools, and workstations in optimal condition
  • Establish and enforce lab procedures, organization standards, and best practices
  • Track inventory (components, consumables, equipment) and keep replenishment organized
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to prioritize lab needs and support timelines
  • Document processes, procedures, and work completed
  • Own lab cleanliness, safety, and overall efficiency

Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Proven lab management experience (able to give real examples of previous lab oversight)
  • Expert-level soldering/rework, specifically:
    • BGA removal/replacement
    • BGA reballing techniques
  • Ability to complete a hands-on practical assessment after a virtual screening
  • Strong organization skills + attention to detail (systematic approach)
  • Stable work history with progression in similar roles
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills (partnering with engineering stakeholders)

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

  • Linux experience (more is better)
  • Experience using rework stations (hot air, IR, etc.) and reballing equipment
  • Lab inventory systems experience
  • IPC certification (IPC-7711/7721 or similar)

Screening Process

  • Virtual Interview (job history + lab management + technical depth)
  • Practical Demonstration (BGA rework + reballing skills validation)

Apply Now

If you're a hands-on lab leader who can demonstrate high-end rework skills (not just talk about them), apply today.
