Position Title:
Part-Time Custodian
Reports To:
Head of School / Facilities Supervisor
Employment Status:
Part-Time (Approximately 15 25 hours per week; schedule may include afternoons, evenings, or weekends as needed)
Position Summary:
The Part-Time Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, families, and visitors. This position plays an essential role in supporting the mission of Wilmington Christian Academy by ensuring that the school's facilities reflect excellence, stewardship, and Christian hospitality.
Mission Alignment:
The Part-Time Custodian shall actively support the mission of Wilmington Christian Academy:
"Wilmington Christian Academy, in partnership with the student's family, aims to provide academic excellence with a Christian foundation to cultivate mature disciples of Jesus Christ."
The custodian is expected to demonstrate Christlike character, integrity, and a servant's heart while interacting with students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Essential Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning Duties
  • Clean classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, and dust assigned areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors.
  • Refill restroom supplies including soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  • Clean windows, glass doors, and entryways as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness of cafeterias, gymnasium, and other shared spaces.

Building Maintenance
  • Perform minor maintenance repairs such as changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, tightening hardware, and basic repairs.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or needed repairs to administration promptly.
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance tasks including snow removal, salting sidewalks, and outdoor cleanup when needed.
  • Help maintain school grounds and exterior appearance.

Event Support
  • Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events, chapel services, meetings, athletic events, and special programs.
  • Assist with facility preparation before and after community events.

Safety and Security
  • Follow all school safety procedures and cleaning protocols.
  • Ensure buildings are properly secured by locking doors and checking windows at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain proper storage and use of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Help identify potential safety concerns and report them immediately.

Team Responsibilities
  • Work cooperatively with administration, faculty, and other staff members.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in completing additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude while serving the school community.

Qualifications
  • Personal commitment to Jesus Christ and agreement with the mission and values of Wilmington Christian Academy.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Push or pull custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions when necessary.

Working Conditions
  • Hours are generally after school or evenings but may vary depending on school needs.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Head of School or designated supervisor based upon job performance, reliability, quality of work, teamwork, and support of the mission of Wilmington Christian Academy.
