Wheeling University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Theology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will lead and develop the Universityโ€™s Theology program while teaching a 4-4 course load across the undergraduate curriculum. Candidates without the terminal degree will also be considered for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor.ย

Responsibilitiesย 

  • Teach four undergraduate courses per semester in Theology, including core curriculum and upper-level electives.ย 

  • Provide academic leadership for the Theology program, including curriculum development and assessment.ย 

  • Advise and mentor students pursuing degrees or minors in Theology.ย 

  • Engage in scholarly activity appropriate to a tenure-track faculty member.ย 

  • Contribute to service at the departmental, university, and community levels.ย 

  • M.A. in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.ย 

  • Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate theology courses.ย 

  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and student engagement.ย 

  • Evidence of scholarly potential in Theology or Religious Studies.ย 

Preferred Qualificationsย 

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.ย 

  • Background in Catholic theology and/or demonstrated engagement with Catholic intellectual tradition.ย 

  • Experience in program leadership, curriculum development, or assessment.ย 

  • Record of successful undergraduate teaching.ย 

  • Experience mentoring diverse student populations and fostering inclusive learning environments.ย 

  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with other academic programs.ย
