Description:

JOB SUMMARY: The Part Time CDL driver primarily operates the Union Area Warehouse Truck based at Lumber Products. Transporting by-products or other products or subassemblies are completed as needed. The Part Time CDL driver also transports inmate workers from and to the UCI workcamp on an as needed basis. Manual transmission endorsement required.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Maintains a current DOT Medical Card and CDL class A license with passenger endorsement.
  2. Complies with all Company Policies, FDC Policies and all DOT Rules and Regulations for commercial drivers.
  3. Ensures all DOT inspections, supporting documents, insurance, and vehicle registration is valid and current for equipment assigned.
  4. Completes Driver Vehicle Inspection (Pre-Trip) on assigned equipment and completes preventative maintenance as required.
  5. Ensures any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving.
  6. Reports defects, accidents, and violations.
  7. Ensures load is according to packing slips, and load is safe and secure; verifies loads for accuracy.
  8. Plans and adjusts routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, GPS, or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  9. Verifies delivery address and coordinates with pickup and delivery sites.
  10. Maneuvers truck into loading and unloading position and loads/unloads/secures load on location.
  11. Completes and submits fuel, toll, and other receipts to Admin Supervisor as needed.
  12. Communicates effectively with staff and customers, addresses concerns, maintains a professional appearance and recognizes the driver represents the company.
  13. Communicates and coordinates with Industry Management on schedule.
  14. Loads and unloads trucks with forklifts and pallet jacks
  15. Performs pre- and post- trip vehicle inspection reports.
  16. Any other task as assigned by Industry Management.


Requirements:

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Three (3) years of CDL A truck driving experience. No DUI or reckless driving on record; Clean MVR.

Language Skills: Ability to read assembly instructions. Ability to speak effectively with customers and vendors.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of people and situations.

Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill:

  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Physical fitness, since Truck Drivers are required to pass a physical exam every two years.
  • Handโ€“eye coordination, since they must coordinate their hands, legs and eyes to maintain a fast reaction time on the roads.
  • Visual and hearing acuity, in accordance with federal regulations which mandate that truck drivers have to hear a forced whisper at 5 feet, have at least 20/40 vision, a 70-degree field of vision and the ability to distinguish the colors of traffic lights.
  • Detailed oriented

Other Skills and Abilities: Able to problem solve with customers and routes.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to drive distances and stay focused and alert.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is on the road in a tractor trailer or other vehicles.
