Job description

Summary:

Proximity Learning provides free supplemental programming to students from our Catholic, Christian, Lutheran, and Independent Chicago Area Schools. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about children, enthusiastic, reliable, respectful, and patient while working with our students. This role will work with high school (grades 9-12) students in small groups, focusing on closing the English Language Arts achievement gap and building a stronger foundation. The instructor will also work with classes that address SAT Prep for a few weeks during the school year. Candidates must be able to multitask and show initiative. This position is highly regarded in the school and requires someone with the flexibility and personality to work as a classroom instructor and a valued resource person.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Provide supplemental instruction to small groups of students struggling with English Language Arts in a pull-out classroom setting.
  • Develop lesson plans based on the Title I English Language Arts curriculum.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the student's classroom teachers to align instruction to support students' development in English Language Arts and extend classroom instruction.
  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment to motivate student attendance.
  • Continuously monitor students' progress, formally and informally, to adjust instruction and grouping.
  • Understand the need to complete the compliance forms required and adhere to Title I guidelines and requirements.
  • Understand the need for maintaining accurate PLI record keeping and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with PLI management, Title I coordinator, school staff, and parents on student progress.

Job Type: Part-time or Full-time (depending on years of experience)

Starting Pay Range: $30/hr.

Schedule: 7.5-hour shift, Monday to Friday

Work Location: In person


Basic requirements:

  • 3-4 years of education at the college or university level
  • At least one year experience as a classroom teacher, tutor, or as a resource personnel
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
